T0 at whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILBUR F. CRAFTS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Files, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

My invention relates especially to depositories for newspaper cuttings, notes, statistics, and items of interest, and has for its object the provision of a'device cheap and simple to construct, and wherein a desired article or reference may be easily and speedily found and consulted.

My invention consists, essentially, in a box constructed in the form of a book, one side whereof is marked for reference and hinged in such a manner as to open outward, displaying the interior of the box. The inner surface of the door is arranged for an index to the contents of the box, all of which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front eleva: tion of my improved paper-file. Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof, wit-h the cover thrown open.

Like letters of reference,wherever they occur, indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

A is the body of the box constructed of any approved material, and A is the side of the box made in imitation of a book upon its exterior, and provided with an index upon its inner surface, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The back B is hinged at one side and provided with a lip, B, upon the other for closing'the side of the box. A pin, 0, is secured in the top edge of the cover, a perforated spring, D, affixed to the body of the box engaging with said pin, securing the cover in place when closed.

E E are two horizontal partitions cut away diagonally on the line a a at their front edges, as shown, and dividing the interior of the box into three compartments. By the peculiar construction and arrangement the envelopes placed in each compartment may be seen at a glance.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A paper-file consisting of the box A, con structed in the form of a book, said box being divided into three compartments by the horizontal partitions E E, the front edges of said partitions being cut away diagonally at a a, as shown, and the cover B, hinged at one edge and provided with a rigid lip, B, at the other edge, the whole combined and arranged to hold papers or envelopes placed upright in each compartment, substantially as and for the purpose shown and described.
