THOMA SERVICE, OF UTIOA, PENNSYLVANIA.
WAGON-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 32,086, dated April 16, 1861.
To all whom it'may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS SERVICE, of Utica, in the county of Venango, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Self-Acting VVagon-Lock; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings wagon, C the of the slot, G, in the reach, D, through which a bolt H passes. The reach, D, also slides freely between the bolster C and the axle, A.
\V, is a bar of iron hung in an eye bolt '0,
in the axle C; in the end of the reach, D, is another eye bolt and chain X connected with this bar of iron and of such a length that when the reach D is drawn forward and in drawing uphill the lock bar V will drag on the ground and when the wagon stops on a hill the lower end will catch in the ground and thus prevent the wagons running back; but as soon as the horses back the reach D is pushed back as aforesaid and by means of the chain X the bar W will be lifted up.
