A. J. WEATHERHEAD.
FORGE AND DRAIN FAUCET.
Patented June 9, 1885.
NITED STATES PATENT Trice.
ALBERT J. WEATHERHEAD, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
FORCE AND DRAIN FAUCET.v
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT J. WEATHER- HEAD, of Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Force and Drain Faucets, of which the following is a specification.
The nature and objects of this invention will fully appear from the subjoined descrip tion, when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view of my faucet, air-pump, and a barrel, showing their construction and relative positions in working order in connection with arefrigerator. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the air-pump, showing manner of securing it to the wall of the refrigerator in connection with the faucet and the manner of operating it in combination therewith. Fig. 3 is an end view of the faucet, showing handle for operating it. Fig. 4 is a cross-section on line as m of faucet in Fig. 1.
A represents the front wall of a refrigerator, supporting the faucet F and air-pump P. The faucet consists of a tube or barrel, B, made perfectly straight in that part which is inserted through the Wall A, the inner end being serewthreaded and provided with a nut, b, for firmly securing it therein, the outer portion being finished and having flange 6, bearing against the outside surface of the wall A. The outer end is made open, with a tapering bore, and has a discharge-branch, b
0 is an inner tube fitted into the said tube or barrel B. It is made preferably straight and plain, except at or near its outer end,
where it has a tapering exterior, which fits closely into the taper of tube B. It also proo jects beyond the tube B, and is provided with a handle, H, and has an opening, 0, which registers with the discharge-opening b". The inner end of said tube 0 projects considerably beyond the inner end of the tube B, and is held therein by means of a ring, 0, and a short stiff spiral spring, 0.
D is a crank fixed onto the end of said tube Oby means of a set-screw, d. This holds the ring or washer 0 against the spring. To the inner end of said tube 0 is attached a hose, E, by means of a screw-cap, 6, connecting it with a keg, K, having a drain-plug, G.
The air-pump consists of an open cylinder, I, supported on a bracket, J, secured to the inside surface of the wall A by means of the nut 12, which also secures the faucet. The upper end of said cylinder is closed with a head, M, secured by bolts '6 z, reaching from the ring on the bracketJ, outside of the cylinder. f
N is a plunger consisting of a disk having a split lug, n, in which is pivoted a pitman, L, connecting it with the crank D.
The head M is provided with two valves, ta. tis the suction-valve for drawing air into the cylinder, and u is the discharge-valve, and is connected by hose R to a hollow spigot, V, in the upper side of the keg K.
The operation of this device is as follows:'
It will be noticed by referring to Fig. 5 that the opening 0 does not come opposite to the discharge until the plunger has made twothirds stroke, so that the air is forced into the keg in advance of the withdrawal of liquid.
Having described my invention, I claim as follows:
The combination, with faucet F, consisting of the tube or barrel B, having open end with tapering bore and provided with discharge b, and the tube 0, having tapering end fitted to fill said tapering bore and having opening 0, registering with said discharge b, of handle H, the, inner end projecting through barrel B, and held by the ring a and spring 0, and provided with the crank D, connected to and operating the piston of the pump P, substantially as described, and for the purpose specified.
ALBERT J. VVEATHERHEAD.
