Description

(No Model.)
A C. A. LINNEMANN.
' SILK FRINGE. N0."305,696. Patented Sept. 23, 1884.
l fiwis; Inventor I mm ' r a r UNTTE STATES CLEMENT AUGUST LINNEMANN,
OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
SILK FRINGE.
' iCl'E'ICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 305,696, dated September 23, 1884,
Application filed June 18, 1883. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, CLEMENT .AUGUs'r LINN MANN, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk, of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Silk- Fringes; and I do hereby declare the same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying draw ings, of which- Figure l is a front view, and Figs. 2 and 3 transverse sections,of a fringe of my improved kind, such Figs. 2 and 3 being on an enlarged scale.
The fringe is a compound one, and consists of a continuous range or mass, a, of separate filaments or threads of tram-silk of one color, laid side by side, and a continuous auxiliary range, b, of twisted silk or of spun threads of a different color, arranged side by side and at or about equal distances apart, and superficially on one or each side of the first range or mass, and a connecting band or selvage, c, Woven with and upon, or otherwise fixed to the said filaments and spun threads, so as to fasten them together at one edge of the fabric, they at the other edge of the fab rie being disconnected, so as cause the whole to be an ornamental fringe, the tram-silk of which will more or less appear and project be" 0 tween the spun-silk threads, and cause the whole to have an ornamental or pleasing apof the superficial ranges of spun-silk threads of a yellow or gold color; but I do not desire to-eonfine the manufacture or fabric to such colors.
I am aware that a design has been devised for fringes in which there is a main row of straight threads, on one side of which and to its heading are festooned loops or bunches of threads at distances apart.-
My fringe consists of two or more continuous ranges of different kinds of threads, arranged side by side the entire length of the fringe, so as thatthe outer or upper range form a front between the threads of which the threads of the inner or under range appear and project, forming a varied effect.
\Vhat I claim is- As a new or improved article of manufacture, the compound fringe, substantially as described, consisting of a continuous mass or range, a, of filaments of tram-silk, arranged side by side and in contact or closely to gether, a continuous mass or range, b, of spun-silk th'reads, also laid side by side and at short intervals apart, and upon one or each of the opposite sides of the tram-silk mass superficially thereof, and, finally, a hand or selvage, c, woven upon or otherwise fixed at one edge of the fabric to the separate filaments, and threads composing the two ranges or masses, all essentially as represented.
CLEMENT AUGUST LTNNEMANN.
