Description
declare that the following is a full and exact viding the forward portion of a plow with a said point extending the entire length of lthe is there secured bv means of lips and set-screws,
ot' the known forms of plows by making the '4 in the accompanying drawings. At the for (marked D,) Figs. 1, 2, and 3. Between the UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY D. ROGERS, OF GRAFTON, OHIO.
yIMPROVEMENT IN SECURING POINTS TO PLOWS.
Specification tbrming part ol' Letters Patent No. 30,352, dated October il, 1860.
To all 101mm it muy concern: s
Be it known that I, HENRY D. ROGERS, of Grafton, in the county of Lorain and State of Ol1io,have invented ancwand Improved Mode of Securing Points to Ilows; and Ido hereby description thereof, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings,`and tothe letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in prosteel or hardened point, the upper lip of said point extending back and above the forward portion of theplow, and the under portion of lower portion of the laudside-of said plow, and` in a mannerhereinafter specified.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Myinvention maybe made applicable to any shoe longer or shorter, as the case may require, said shoe being shown at A, Figs. 1, 2, 3, andA ward end ofthe shoe, at B, Figs. 1, 2, and 3, I put a piece of tempered steel to form a point. A portion of said piece of stcel is extended up over the forward end of the plow, as shown at C', Figs. 1 and 3, a vertical view ot said point being shown at C", Fig. 2. The back end ofthe aforesaid shoe is provided-'with a split hook,
split in the hook, and the lower turn in the hook is placed a set-screw, (marked E, Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4.)
I will now show the manner of putting said lpoint and shoe onto the plow for operation.
of the plow may be made rough or pointed, so Y that the steel point cannot be displaced without turningback the set-screwE. Fig. 4 shows la plow inverted for the purpose of showing the lower part of the point and shoe. By this arrangement it will be seen that one point can be used for more than one plow, as there is no l hole to be drilled in thecast-iron,it being made too hard to drill without much labor and time being spent. By using my improvement a point may be new laid with steel, and made to last a great while longer than it otherwise would', and as the point always wears more on the under side than it does on the upper side, a plow-point requires to be often dressed, so
that it is quite an objectto get some mode of attachingand detachin g the lpoint; with facility.
Having thus described my improved point and shoe, what I claim a's new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The securing the .point B by ymeans ot' the shoe A, hook D, andset-screw E, the whole being arranged in the manner and for the pnrpose as herein described.
HENRY D. Roenes. f
