. SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 302,164, dated -Tu1y 15, 1884.
Application filed March 14, 1884. No model.)
10 all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN H. SOHENOK, of Franklin, county of Warren, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Propelling Swings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
My invention relates to an improvement in swings; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, the object being I 5. to provide means for propelling a swing which is operated by the feet of the occupant.
In the drawings, Figure 1. is a side view of my improved swing. Fig. 2 is a front elevation. Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views.
A represents an upright frame of either a stationary or portable character.
B B are the side ropes or rods of the swing, hinged at their upper ends to a transverse rod, 0, which connects the sides of the frame A. 2 5 Between the ropes or rods B B is arranged a seat of ordinary construction, having a slight backward pitch or incline, substantially as shown, so that when swinging the comfort of the occupant will be assured.
At the lower end of the frame'A are secured side bars, F. a a are supports or braces secured to the transverse bar 0 and frame A.
From the center of the bar 0 is securely fastened a projection, E, and to which is attached the pulley G. Over this pulley runs the cord 9, having its upper end secured to the crossbrace I), fixed between the side ropes or rods of the swing, substantially as shown, and extending from thence over the pulley G to the propelling -1ever or treadle -board H. This treadle-board is hinged to the foot-rest of the seat, substantially as seen in Figs. 1 and 3.
The swing is operated by the occupaut pressing down on the treadle or propelling-lever as the swing moves back and forward.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 15-- In combination with the frame A, provided with the arm E, having the pulley G, swing, and seat, provided with the hinged treadle H, the actuatingcord g, fixed to a cross-bar between the side ropes or rods of the swing and extending from them over the pulley to the treadle, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I append my signature.
JOHN H. SOHENOK.
