UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
Josnrn VAAS, or CABLSRUHE, GERMANY.
HOLDER'FQR CURTAINS AND CURTAIN-RODS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 302,060, dated July 15, 1884 Applicationfiled December 11, 1883. (No model.) i i To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J osEPH VAAS, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and residing ing is a specification.
This invention relates to adjustable bracketholders for curtain poles and rods, whereby they may, without unfixing fro'mthe wall or window, be readily adapted for poles and curtains of different dimensions.
The invention relates, further, to adjustable holders or knobs used for looping up or draping the curtains; and it consists in a means of fixing the same, whereby they may be changed or fixed in different positions without injury to the wall in removing and refixing.
My improvements are represented. in the accompanying drawings, in which Figures 1 to 5 represent several views of my adjustable bracket-holder for curtain poles and rods.
Figs. 6, 7 represent my adjustable curtainknob. a
My improved bracket-holder consists, essentially, of a back plate or wall-plate,A, (see Figs. 1 and 2,) slotted and chambered; so asto receive a flat-headed bracketrarm, B, and
allow the fiat head of the bracket-arm B to slidealong the plate from end to end inorder to adjust it to the required position. These plates A are so fixed by suitable screws, a, at
either side of the window at the proper height,
the adjustment above described enabling the bracket-holders B, which hold the hooks C, to
be shifted laterally, to suit the curtain pole or rod without unfiXing the back or wall plate,
A. This headed bracketarmBis made tubular or grooved to form a socket for or receive the stem of the hook or holder 0, which car-. ries the curtain pole or rod, and to admit-of the same being slid in and out for adjusting the length of the bracket-arm as required. This telescopicallysliding portion of the bracket is prevented from turning in its socket or supporting-arm, either by a thumb-screw, D, working in a longitudinal slot, E, in the socket or arm B, or else 'by being provided with. feathers e, working in corresponding grooves within the arm B. The screw D is also employed to hold the hooks O in whatever position they may have been adjusted. Fig. 1 represents the above-described construction partly in section, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view'of the same arrangement.
' In Fig.3 a sliding hook is represented, constructed so as to receive a round curtain-pole within its rounded'hook F.
Figs. 4 and 5 represent, the first in side eleva- 'tion, partly in section, and the second in a front view, a'further variation in construction, in which the hook-bar 0 slides within a groove on the top of the bracket-arm B, in place of within the said arm, as before described. In this construction the bracket-arm B is-provided with a slot, E, through which the shank of the thumb-screw D passes, serving th 'ame purpose as before described. K
Figs. 6 and 7 represent my improved arrangements to enable the side holders or knobs used-in draping the curtains to be unfixed and refixed' or changed to suit the curtains without injuryto the wall. Wood blocks G are let into the wall, and metal plates h screwed thereto, said plates having holes in them tapped to receive the stems of the screws J, with which the holders or knobs H are provided, so that the latter can be readily fixed and unfiXed by merely screwing their stems in and out of the fixed plates or; nuts without injuring the wall or its decorations. J
Having. thus described my, invention and the manner of operating the same, I claim 1. The combination of the plate A, having a horizontal slot, with the arm or-socket B adapted thereto, and the hook or holder 0, adapted to be adjusted in said arm or socket B, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a block, G, carrying a screw-threaded plate, h, with a knob, H, having a threaded stem, J, adapted to be screwed into said plate, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
, J. VAAS.
