Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J. CARD, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
CARRIAGE-JACK Specication of Letters Patent No. 30,120, dated September 25, 1860.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. CARD, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Carriage-Jacks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the construction of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a side View.
Like letters referto like parts in the several views.
My invention relates to a carriage jack having a rolling and moving fulcrum, which, with a foot piece, forms the support to the carriage aXletree, when the same is raised. in order to remove the wheel.
A represents the fulcrum wheel. The journal B, of this wheel passes through side pieces C. The side pieces C are screwed to a center piece D, which extends backward, and forms a pedal orfoot upon which the pressure is partly received, when the jack is in use the wheel A forming the balance of the support.
E is a lever by which the ack is operated This is secured between the pieces C, by means of screws as shown in the gures.
At F, and G, are shown notches in the side pieces C, upon which the aXletree of the carriage rests, when raised from the ground in order to remove the carriage wheel.
In using this machine or jack, the notch F or Gr, (as the case may be) is placed under the aXletree, in the position seen in Fig. 2. It is then, by the depression of the lever E brought to the position seen in Fig. 1, also indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 2, the foot piece D, and roller A forming a steady support. The roller A forms a moving fulcrum, which passes easily under the aXletree, and thus raising the carriage wheel from the ground.
lhat I claim as my improvement and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The special arrangement of the wheel A, lever E, and foot piece D, operating as and for the purpose set forth.
J. CARD. IVitnesses:
W. H. BURRIDGE, HENRY Vo'rH.
