ARTHUR MAGINNIS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
METHOD OF VENTILATING HATSA Specification of Letters Patent No. 29,984, dated September 11, 1860.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ARTHUR MAGINNIS, of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilating Hats; and I d0 hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, A, represents the body, B, the brim, and C, the sweat leather' of the hat.
At the junction of the body with the brim, a recess d, is formed in the hat and entirely around it--this recess is made large enough to contain an india rubber tube a, which is perforated with small holes as shown in Figure l.
The sweat' leather is secured in the hat in the usual manner, being made to overlap the tube a. The sweat leather is perforated, to
allow air to pass into the tube, as seen at c, c, c, and is made somewhat smaller than the body of the hat above where it is fastened to it in order to allow air to pass up. The top of the hat is also perforated as seen in E ig. 2. By the use of the recess, the rubber tube, and the sweat leather in this manner a nice Ventilating arrangement is formed and the hat is made soft and pleasant to the head.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
