Claims priority, application Japan Sept. 10, 1955 lClaim. (Cl. 209-288) This invention relates to an improved multiple classifier for a mixture of solid particles of various grain size;
An object of this invention is to provide a multiple classifier the slot gaps of which can readily be set to any desirable width. Said adjustable setting of the slot gaps cannot be carried out in the conventional sieve provided with perforated plate or wire net.
Another object of this invention isto-provide amultiple classifier, in which compensation of the slot gaps can readily be made without replacing of a rod with a new rod in case said rod were defaced.
A further object of this inventionis to provide a. multiple classifier the repair of which is readily made without much interruption of its operation.
The construction and operation, together with further objects and advantages of this invention, may best be understood by reference to the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. l is a side view of an example of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the example in Fig. 1, sectioned partially.
Fig. 3 is a partial view of the mechanism for attaching the rods to the terminal ring in the example in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view along the line 4-4 in Fig. 3.
Referring to Figs. l-4, a cylindrical screen A consists of a plurality of concentric unitary rod compartments B connected in series.
Each of said compartments B is formed by attaching a plurality of parallelly arranged spiral rods 4 to both their terminal rings 1 so that said rods may form spiral slot gaps having the same width between every one rod and its adjacent rod, the width of the slot gaps of each unitary rod compartment being made difierent from the other unitary rod compartments.
Each of said terminal rings is divided into two equal ring elements 22, provided with flanges 23, and said ring elements of a pair are attached to each other by bolts 30 and nuts at said flanges 23 so as to connect horizontally several unitary rod compartments in series and in the order of the compartment having smaller slot gaps to the compartment having larger slot gaps.
The cylindrical screen as described above is supported by two sets of rollers 12. The shaft 16 of each set of said rollers is rotatably supported by bearings 14 which in turn are supported by base frames 15.
At a portion of each of said shafts 13 is attached a sprocket wheel 16, and two sprocket wheels 17 are rotatably supported side by side by a shaft 17a, said wheels 16 being driven, respectively, by said wheels 17 through the chains 18.
To the shaft 17a of the sprocket wheels 17 is attached a sprocket wheel 19 which is driven, through a chain 20, by a driving shaft 21 of a driving motor M.
For the attachment of the rods 4 to the terminal ring. special attaching members such as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 are used. Said attaching members consist of an inclined sleeve 24 having a hole passing terminal portion States Fatent r of one rod 4 therethrough and a U-shaped hook 25 hanging from said sleeve.
The hook 25 is provided with a concave recess 26 which can slidably be engaged on the elongated projection. 27 of the ring element 2.2.
The hook 25 is fixed closely to. the ring element 22- bytightening a screw bolt 28 protruding from the bottom of the hook, by means of nuts 29, to make the terminal portion of the rod 4 protruding from the sleeve 24 engage firmly with the elongated convex projection 31 projected from the periphery, of the ring element 22, thus causing the sleeve 24 to grip the rod 4. and also tohave projection 27- engagedcloselywith the concave recess 26, whereby the terminal portion of the rod 4 is firmly tightened to the ring elements; Two ring elements 22 of a pair are fixed by means of a screw bolt- 30 and nuts. One side of the terminals of a series of the rods 4- is supported by one ring element 22 of a pair and one side of the terminals of another series of the rods- 4 is supported by the other ring element 22 of said pair, the directions of said terminals of two kinds being made to coincide at the same pitch angle, as shown in Fig 3. Several series of the spiral rods 4 are attached concentrically to the required pairs of the terminal rings 22, said pairs being held equidistantly, as shown in Fig. 1, whereby several unitary rod compartments B, consisting of the terminal rings and spiral rods are formed, said compartments forming a spiral cylinder A.
When particles to be classified are charged into a compartment of the smallest size aperture positioned at the feed end and the cylindrical screen consisting of multiple compartments is rotated, said particles are advanced along on the spiral way consisting of the spiral rods and slots, to the other discharging end, whereby bulky particles being a mixture of various granular sizes, may successively be classified into as many homogeneous size groups as required.
Accordingly, when the slot gaps of each unitary rod compartment is successively selected smaller than the next unitary rod compartment, and particles to be classified are charged into the first compartment of the smallest size slot gaps, the particles will be eflectively classified.
In the construction of the cylindrical screen A, it is necessary to connect the unitary rod compartments B so that said compartments may be positioned successively in an order of smaller to larger slot gaps.
According to the present invention, the following industrial elfects will be obtained.
(a) Adjustment of slot gaps to smaller or larger openings can be made by adding or removing one or more rods 4 and attaching members thereof. Said addition can be effectuated by carrying out successively the following operations, that is to say, release of the nuts 29 to permit the sliding of the attaching members with the rods thereof backward or forward, shifting of said attaching members along the peripheries of the ring elements to leave any required space along said peripheries; attaching of the attaching member or members of the rod or rods to be added at said left space; adjusting of the slot gaps between the rods to obtain equidistant slot gaps along the periphery of the rod compartment; after the adjustment of the rods so as to decrease the gaps between the rods said nut 29 is tightened to fix the rods at their adjusted positions; whereby the slot gaps between the rods are decreased. In the same manner as above, the rods can be removed by carrying out successively the following steps of releasing the nuts 29 to permit the sliding of the attaching members with the rods thereof, removing the attaching member or members of the rod or rods to be removed, shifting the remaining attaching members backward or forward along the peripheries of the ring elements to adjust equidistantly the slot gaps between the rods, after the adjustment of the rods so as to increase the gaps between the rods, said nut 29 is tightened to fix the rods at their adjusted positions, whereby the slot gaps between the rods are enlarged. V
(b) Simple compensation of defacement of the spiral rods is possible. When the spiral rods are defaced during all but a few rods.
While the particular embodiment of this invention has been described and shown, it will, of course, be understood that this invention should not be limited thereto, since many modifications may be made and all such modifications are within the spirit and the scope of this invention.
I claim:
A multiple classifier comprising in combination, a cylindrical screen composed of a. series of unit compartments, each consisting of a plurality of concentrically arranged spiral rods of uniform pitch angle and a pair of parallelly arranged terminal rings forming its head and end, attachment means for the spiral rods to the terminal rings, said attachment means including fastening memsaid projection engage closely with said concave recess of the ring, thereby tightening firmly the terminal portion of the rod to the ring elements, so that the terminals of the rods supported equidistantly by one of the ring elements 7 of a pair at an equal pitch angle may concentrically advance, forming a spiral cylinder, to the other ring element of said pair whereby the other terminals of said rods are caused to be supported.
