Application September 24, 1957, Serial No. 685,875 1 Claim. (Cl. 15-1213) This invention relates to a painters pail and more particularly to a pail that is primarily intended for use with paint rollers.

An object of my invention is to provide a pail which is. adapted to contain a substantial amount of paint, in which the roller is dipped, and which pail is provided with means for conveniently and quickly extracting the superfluous paint from the roller.

A further object of this invention is to provide a pail which will greatly facilitate the use of a paint roller.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following description and from the accompanying drawing in which:

As shown in the drawing, my improved painters pail includes a container 5 having a bottom 6 with side walls 7-7 and upwardly extending end walls 8-8, each of which is inclined outwardly at an angle of approximately seventy degrees since it has been found that this angle is most appropriate for the best results.

The said pail is provided with brackets 9-9 upon which there is pivotally mounted a handle bail 10 having a central notch 11 formed therein to prevent slipping of the handle and unbalancing of the pail when it is hung on a hook or the like.

My invention is particularly directed to the provision of an improved roller loading device for facilitating the use of a paint roller. The said device includes a rolling plate 12 which is preferably corrugated horizontally and mounted upon a pair of vertical supporting bars 13-13 having hook portions 14-14 by means of which the said plate is hung over the edge of one of the end walls 8. The said supporting bars are also provided with foot portions 15-15 which space them from the end wall so as to provide a spacebetween the rolling plate and said end wall, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 2.

The said rolling plate 12 has a suitable number of perforations 16 through the upper portion thereof for the passage of paint which is extracted from the roller. A stop bar 21 extends across said plate and is adapted to engage the roller and prevent it from being carried oi? the said rolling plate.

In order to support the conventional roller, indicated in dotted lines at 17, within said pail, I provide a supporting bracket 18 which preferably includes a pair of rollersupporting portions 19-19 having hook portions 2020 which are adapted to fit over the edge of the opposite end wall 8 to mount said bracket thereon.

In the use of my improved pail, paint is placed therein, preferably up to the level indicated at 22. The roller 17 is then held by its handle, dipped into said paint and then rolled upwardly against the rolling plate 12. This extracts the surplus paint from the surface of the roller and said surplus paint then passes through the perforations l6 and drains downwardly, between the rolling plate and the respective end wall 8, back into the paint at the bottom of the pail.

It will be noted that when the roller and down against the plate 12, the roller from rolling off said tates the operation the roller.

When the roller is not being used, it is merely placed in the brackets 19 and the handle of said roller will rest upon the bar 21 as clearly shown in Fig. 2.,

I claim:

In a painters pail having a bottom, side Walls, end walls diverging upwardly from said bottom, a' corrugated surface on one of said end walls and a stop bar disposed transversely upon the upper portion of said corrugated surface and extending inwardly therefrom; the combination of a bracket mounted upon the opposite end wall of said pail and including hook means extending over the edge of said opposite end wall for supporting the bracket thereon, and a pair of spaced hooks disposed inwardly of said pail and adapted for receiving and supporting a paint roller with the handle thereof 17 is rolled up the bar 21 will prevent plate and thereby faciliof extracting the surplus paint from resting upon said stop bar.
