UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES DOTY, JR., OF l/VESTFALLS, NE\V YORK.
MOP-HEAD.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 29,148, dated July 17, 1860.
To all whom 'it' may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES DoT'rY, Jr., of Vestfalls, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Heads; and I do hereb)7 declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to t-he annexed drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- A Figure (l) is a longitudinal View showing the invention complete and ready for use. Fig. (2) is a view of the same nature showing the jaws open, ready to receive the mop.
The nature of my invention consists in the employment of the pivoted lever, as shown, together in the combination of the same with other devices, the peculiarities of which will be fully and amply set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A represents the staff with a head on its end, as shown in both gures. Said sta is provided with a mortise, in which is pivoted the lever The end of this lever has also a head Similar to the one on the staff. Thus when the lever is down, the two heads lit closely together.
(a) is a roller secured to the head on the staff by means of the loop There should be some spring in said loop to enable the mop to be passed between the roller (a) and the head on staff Thus it will be seen that this roller subserves two important ends-that of rendering the machine more easily operated and at the same time assists in holding the mop.
(d) represents a link, which slips over the end of the lever (o), when forced down upon JAMES DoTY, JR.
