Description

(No Model.) I
D. R. BIZE; TRACE CARRIER. 8T9.2'11. Patented N0v..Z7,'1883'. I
FIELl,
- INVENTOR.
I ATTORNEY; I
I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL ROBERT BIZE, or COLUMBUS, GEORGIA.
TRACE-CARRIER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,211, dated .November 27, 1883.
Application filed Juno 4, 1863. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: 1 Be it known that I, DANIEL R. BIZE. aresident of the city of Columbus, county of Muscogee, and State ofGeorgia, have invented a 5 certain new and useful Improvement in Back- Band Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description of the sa1ne,reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speci- IO fication.
This invention relates to a buckle or slide having passages for a back-band, and spurs for engaging the same, an eye or half-ring for the passage of driving-reins, a hook for carrying the trace-chains, and a socket-ring for receiving the end of a belly-band or rope, where by the harness is secured to the draft-animal. In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved buckle or clasp, and Fig. 2 represents the same as when applied to plow-harness.
The buckle or clasp consists of three paral- 1 lel bars, a b 0, having connecting end bars, cl 0. i The central bar, I), is provided with spurs i f f, and the lower bar, a, with downwardlyprojecting arms g g, the lower ends of which are united and provided with an outwardlyprojecting socket-ring, i, and at a short distance above the latter with a hook, as shown at k. The barsa c are connected at or about their centers with an outwardly projecting band, forming a half-ring or eye, as shown at Z.
In the application of my device one end of the back-band M is first passed from the rear through the space between the bars a b, then around the latter, and back through the space between the same and the bar 0, when it is pulled through to a sufficient extent to be securely held by the spurs, or the end can be folded back against the main part of the band 0 and then stitched or otherwise secured thereto. The belly-band Nis passed through from thebottom of the socket-ring and aknot tied therein to prevent its withdrawal from the same. The driving-reins O are passed through 4 5 the half-ring or eye Z, and the trace-chains P are supported, when desired, by the hook k.
Each set of harness is provided with a pair of my devicesone for each side thereof.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
A plow-harness buckle or slide having bars a b c and spurs, for the purpose set forth, a half-ring or eye for the driving-reins, a hook for carrying the trace-chains, and an outwardly-projecting socket-ring for securing the belly-band, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DANIEL ROBERT BIZE.
