To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Srrnnon WARREN, a citizen of the United States, residing at High Springs, in the county of Alachua and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in buckles, and more particularly to that class adapted to be used in connection with harness, belts, etc., and my object is to provide means for securing the ends of the straps without employing tongues in connection with the buckle.

A. further object is to provide a flexible buckle and a still further object is to provide means for preventing the buckle from injuring the strap.

Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, Figure 1 is an edge elevation of my improved buckle, showing straps attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof.

Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,

1 and 2 indicate the end sections of the buckle and 3, 4 and 5, the intermediate sections, said sections comprising links which are attached together by providing eyes 6 and 7 on the intermediate sections 3 and 5, respectively, the eye at one edge of the section 3 engaging one bar of the end section 1 and the eye at the opposite end thereof engaging one bar of the section 4:, while the eyes 7 on the section 5 engage, respectively, the bars on the end section 2 and the section 4:, thereby forming a continuous flexible frame or buckle.

Extending centrally through the end sections 1 and 2, are bars 8 and 9, respectively, around which and the outer bars of said sections, are placed tubular shields 10, which shields rotate on the bars and serve to protect the traps 11 and 12 extending, respectively, through the sections 1 and 2. The eyes on the intermediate sections 3 and 5 are likewise surrounded by tubular shields 1S and 14, respectively, which are also adapted Specification of Letters Patent.

to rotate around the eyes and the bars of the respective sections to which the eyes are attached.

This form of buckle is peculiarly adaptable for use in connection with harness in securing the tug straps to the sections of strap attached to the hames; and in securing the straps to the parts of the buckle, the end of the strap 11 is introduced below the bar at the outer edge of the section 1 over the bar 8 below the bar and eye at the inner edge of the section 1 and around the eye and bar of the sections 3 and a, thence below the left eye 6 and over the bar 8, while the end of the strap 12 is similarly introduced into engagement with the end section 2 and the intermediate sections 5 and 4t and it will be readily seen that when a pull is made on the straps thus arranged, the ends of said straps will be tightly pressed against the bars 8 and 9 and in view of the circuitous path of said ends, the straps will be firmly held in engagement with the parts of the buckle. It will further be seen that the straps may be quickly adjusted to lengthen or shorten the same, as the loosening of that portion of the straps immediately over the bars 8 and 9, will permit the ends of the straps to be pulled through'the sections of the buckle until the loosened portion is again drawn taut, this operation being further facilitated by providing the rotating shields as shown and it will be readily seen that said shields will protect the straps and prevent wearing or injury thereto by coming in direct contact with the parts of the buckle.

What I claim is: j

1. In a flexible buckle, the combination with end sections of frame-like outline having transverse central bars with tubular shields thereon; of intermediate sections forming links between said end sections, the end bars of the alternate intermediate sections having eyes thereon engaging the end bars of the adjacent sections, said eyes and outside bars of said end sections also having tubular shields thereon, the several sections being each adapted for the threading of a strap therethrough whereby the ends of a strap may be securely held in said buckle without the aid of a tongue.

2. In a flexible buckle, the combination with end sections of frame-like outline having transverse central bars with tubular shields thereon; of two intermediate sections having eyes on the end bars thereof, the

eyes on the outside of said intermediate sections engaging the inner end bars of said end sections and an additional intermediate section, the inner eyes of said two intermediate sections engaging the ends of said last referred to intermediate section, all of said eyes and the end bars of said end sections also having tubular shields thereon, the several sections being each adapted for the 10 threading of a strap therethrough whereby the ends of a strap may be inserted between said sections and securely held Without the use of a tongue.
