- the characteristic feature of the device according to this invention resides in the fact that a pair of gauge cylinders are interposed between the feed cylinders and drawing cylinders and measure the sliver thickness, acting through a hydraulic servo-control on a mechanism transmitting the rotation of the drawing cylinders to the feed cylinders, in order to vary the speed of the feed cylinders in accordance with the variations in thickness of the sliver.

- the top cylinder 14 is lowered, thereby raising the movable units 13 and drawing liquid rom the cylinders 21 towards the chambers 19.
- the pistons 22 are then lifted carrying along the connecting rods 8 and drawing the pivots 5 of the connecting rods towards the centre of oscillation of the collars 11.
- the rectilinear movement of the connecting rods 8 results in a wider angular movement of the collars ll, hence in an increase in mean speed of the feed cylinders relatively to the drawing cylinders, the thickness of the sliver N increasing up to the prescribed value.
- the one-way clutches 11-42 keyed to the feed cylinders may be replaced by friction clutches. This alternative construction is not shown on the drawing.
- a sliver gauge adjusting device for spinning machines comprising a pair of drawing cylinders, a pair of feeding cylinders, and a pair of sliver gauging cylinders arranged intermediate of the said first mentioned pairs of cylinders, each of said pairs of cylinders having a lower cylinder and an upper cylinder superimposed thereupon, all cylinders having their axes arranged horizontally and parallel to each other, the lower cylinders of each pair being tangent to a common horizontal plane arranged above them, the upper cylinder of said pair of sliver gauging cylinders being a bodily movable cylinder, means for transmitting rotation from the lower drawing cylinder to the lower feeding cylinder, said means including a pair of alternately movable horizontally arranged connecting rods receiving alternating movement from the lower drawing cylinder and each operatively connected to the outer member of a one-way clutch having its inner member pivoted to one end of said lower feeding cylinder for producing alternate angular movements thereof, and means responsive to the bodily
