GEO. A. STANLEY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
CANDLE-MOLDING APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,209, dated May 8, 1860.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, G. A. STANLEY, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Clamp for Candles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which-M Figure l, is a perspective view of the clamp. Fig. 2, is a top view.
Like letters denote like parts in the two views.
The nature of my improvement relates to a clamp; arranged with a top and bottom piece, so connected together, as to allow a slide to move between them, longitudinally, by means of a lever, or its equivalent. The clamp is in size suitable for a candle mold, and in the clamp are arranged a. series of holes to correspond with the number of holes in the mold. The clamp is so placed in relation to the mold, that the candles in passing from the mold, enter the holes in the clamp, the desired distance, then by slightly moving the slide, the holes are contracted, or in other words, the slide presses upon the sides of the candles, so that the candles are held while being drawn out of the mold. This clamp may be either operated by hand, or it may be connected to the candle mold, and operated by a certain arrangement of mechanical devices.
The clamp A, consists of three horizontal pieces, the upper and lower ones H, H', are
kept in place, by the pieces M, N, O, P, that are screwed to each end, and both sides of the upper and lower pieces, forming the clamp. The middle piece C, forms a slide, to which is connected the lever D. This slide is moved either way by the lever D, as it is turned; pressing against lthe piece O, or the pin F. In the clamp are holes to correspond, in size and number to. those in the mold.
In operation, this clamp is placed on the mold, the holes being placed directly over the candles that are molded, the candles are then caused to pass up a little ways in the clamp, as far as the slide C, so that the slide when moved along by the lever D, holds the candles sufficiently tight, that by raising the clamp, the candles are drawn out. The position of the slide, and lever when moved along is indicated in Fig. 2. By this arrangement, the candles can all be simultaneously withdrawn from the mold, and they can be released from the clamp by turning back the lever. There are pins at each corner, on the lower part of the clamp, by which it stands on the mold.
That I claim as my improvement and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The special arrangement of the slide C, and upper, and lower pieces H, H, and lever D, when operating conjointly, in the manner, and for the purpose specied.
GEO. A. STANLEY.
