' 4 claims. (cl. 15o- 35) This invention relates to the art of purses and wallets and particularly concerns a combination change purse and wallet.

An important object of the invention is to provide a lgusseted billfold structure with a coin compartment and an `adjoining pocket for cat-ching and holding coins discharged from the compartment in a convenient accessible manner.

A further object is to provide a combination billfold and change purse` with two compartments, one of the compartments being adapted for holding coins in la concealed manner and the other compartment being arranged to hold coins in an exposed and accessible manner.

A further object is to provide a wallet including a change purse adaptable for use by both men and women, the wallet being in the form of Va neat box-like structure.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, `and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the wallet in a closed assembled arrangement.

In Figs. 1-5 is shown a rectangular box-like structure 20 having a front side or face 15. This side has a pair of rounded opposite lower corners C. Oppositely disposed to the front side is a rear side or face 16. This `side is substantially equal in size and shape to the front side 15. Both sides are made of leather, sheet plastic, or any suitable type of fabric. Disposed between the sides and 16 is a rather thick strip 17 which forms the bottom and end walls of the structure 20. Between the front side 15 and wall structure 17 are a pair of lateral gussets 18. These are shallow grooved members' having V-shaped cross sections. A U-shaped line of stitching 22 secures the lside 15 at its lower portion to strip 17 and at its upper portion to the gussets 18. The gussets in turn are secured to the upper end of the strip 17 by straight lines of stitching 23. This arrangement of the gussets and front side 15 is made possible by the U-shaped 4coniiguration in which the strip 17 is formed. A compartment 11 for retaining coins in a concealed manner is formed between side 16 and an inner partition 24. The margins of partition 24 4and side 16 are stitched nited States Patent to the `Ushaped strip17. Between partition 24 and front side 15 is defined Ia compartment 10 which is considerably larger than compartment 11 and is used for holding currency in the forms of bills B in a folded condition as indicated by dotted lines `in Fig. 2. The compartment 10 can be enlarged as required by the gussets 18. Compartment 11 is coextensive in length and width with compartment 10, but the compartment 11 is considerably shallower and is intended for use as a storage place for the coins P shown by dotted lines in Fig. 3.

A cover of closure ilap 26 is secured to the top edge of side 16 by stitches 27. This flap is arranged to fold over at F as shown in Fig. 1 and is detachably secured to the front side 15 by a snap fastener consisting of a female button 2S mounted near the free edge of the flap and a mating male member 29 mounted on the side 15 near its free edge E. Another compartment 12 is formed on flap 26 by'a sheet-like strip 30 secured to the flap by a U-shaped line of stitching 31. When the wallet is, opened and partially inverted as shown in Fig. 3 the coins I concealed in the compartment 11 slide forwardly over flap portion26 into the narrow compartment 12 where they are conveniently accessible. After the user has selected the desired coins from compartment 12 the coins can be slid back into compartment 11 by raising the wallet to theV upright position yof Fig. 2. When the flap 26 is folded over the front side 15 and snap fastener members 28, 29 are engaged, compartment 11 is fully closed by the narrow flap portion 26'. When flap 26 is openl compartment 12 is substantially coplanar with compartment 11.

In Figs. 6 and 7 is shown a modication of the invention in which compartment 11 is divided into two sections 11a and 11b by a line of stitching 33. Compartment 12 between flap 26 and strip 30 is similarly divided `into sections by stitching 34. Section 12a is narrower than section 12b. The depths of these sections are determined by the placement of lines of stitching 35 and 36, respectively. The lines of stitching 35 and 36 are discontinuous or interrupted to provide yspaces into whichditterent sizes of coins `P and P can be held. Larger coins P and smaller coins or tokens P will be so held in the compartment sections 12a and 12b that portions of the coins project out of these sections 'and overlie ap portion 26 as shown in Fig. 6. In these positions the desired coins can readily be selected. The widths of compartment sections 11a, 11b are substantially equal respectively to the widths of sections 12a, 12b.

The structure of the Wallet as described employs simple, generally rectangular-shaped sheet or strip elements throughout and is particularly adapted to mass production assembly techniques because the several elements can be die cut and machine stitched with high speed machinery. The materials of which the several members are made may be as indicated previously, of any suitable types of sheet and strip material including leather, plas tics, cloth, and treated fabrics of various types.

While I have illustratedv and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that l do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and `desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is: 1. A combination billfold and change purse, comprising a substantially rectangular box-like structure, said stru-cture havingA frontand rear sides substantially equal in length andwidth, a generally U-shaped strip disposed between said sides, a generally rectangular partition dis? posed between the rear side and said strip and defining a rst compartment, another compartment being, formed between said partition and said front side, said sides and partition being joined to'said, strip by stitching, a, pai-r of v-c-:laannel-shaped-gussets having V-shaped cross sections disposed between upper portions of said front side and said strip, a generally rectangular flap attached by stitching to said rear side, another strip generally rectangular in form and smaller than said flap, said other strip being attached to the flap by la U-shaped line of stitching and defining with said flap a third compartment disposed in a substantially coplanar arrangement with said first compartment when the flap is opened, said fiap and front side carrying mating snap fastener members for securing the ap over the open tops of said first compartment and said other compartment, said other compartment being substantially larger than said first compartment for holding folded paper currency, said first compartmentbeing divided by further stitching i-ntoa-t least two sections, `said third compartment bein-g divided by other stitching into other sections substantially equal in Widths to the widths of respective ones of said two sections.
