' F. E. WILLIAMS.
DUPLEX SLEEVE BUTTON.
No. 277,095. v Patented May 8,1883.
ATTESTI INVENTOR f AME/ML J4 TWLMEM Wm M N. PETERs Phuuum n h. Wnhingwn n. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DUPLEX SLEEVE-BUTTONQ SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,095, dated May 8, 1883. Application filed January 31, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK E. WILLIAMS, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Duplex Sleeve-Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement will be fully described, and
then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts, Figure 1 shows the improved duplex button with the two outer heads, A A, connected by the single bar B, which is curved to fit the interior of the cuff, and has its ends turned upward to form studs or posts for the heads A A.
In Fig. 2, A represents one of the buttonheads, which is afiixed to one of the upwardlycurved ends of the bar B. The other curved end of the bar B is pointed and provided with the circumferential groove a, which engages with spring locking devices in the second button-head, A, as shown in Fig. 1, the said looking devices being operated by the projecting finger-pieces b b in the button-head A. It will readily be seen that both of the buttonheads A A can be provided with the locking devices, or thelockingdevices can be dispensed with entirely, as desired but I think it would generally be found most convenient to have one of the heads provided with lockin g devices, as shown.
Figs. 4. and 5clearly show the application of my improved duplex button to the cufl'.
Fig. 3 shows a. button which is provided between the posts with a flexible connection consisting of a link or links adapted to conform to the curved contour of a wrist.
What I claim is- 1. A sleeve-button composed of a metal bar having a concaved inner side and a convexed outer side, and provided near each end with an outwardly-projecting post, each furnished with a head or button, substantially as specitied.
2. A sleeve-button having two posts adapted to extend through button-holes, and provided with heads or buttons, one of which is detacha-bly secured to its post at a point that will be outside a button-hole to which the post may be applied, and a connection between the posts capable of conforming to the contour ofa Wrist,
substantially as specified. In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
