Description

G. HEIN. Sleeve-Button Link.
No. 203,618. Patehted May 14, 1878.
WW mvnmon:
a! M? BY W ATTORNEYS. I
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES HEIN, OF CORONA, ASSIGNOR TO HALE & MULFORD, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SLEEVE-BUTTON LINKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,618, dated May 14, 1878 application filed April 10, 1878.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRARLEs HEIN, of Gorona, in the county of Queens, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sleeve-Button Links, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved link,
sponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved link for connecting sleeve-buttons, which shall be so constructed that the eyes of the buttons may be readily attached or detached, so that it may be secured to the eye of the button upon the inside of the cuff without its being necessary to pass the button through the button-hole of said cuff, and which at the same time shall be strong, durable, andnotliable to become accidentally detached, and for other similar uses.
The invention consists in the link formed of thedouble hook and the locking-bar, pivoted to each other at the center of the link in such a way that the ends of the said bar may be sprung into grooves in the said hooks, as hereinafter fully described.
A and B represent the buttons to be connected. G is a wire, of suitable size and length, the ends of which are bent into hook form, as shown in Fig. 1, so that they may be passed through the eyes of the buttons A B.
To the center of the double hook G is pivoted the center of abar, D, which is made of such a length that its ends may overlap the ends of the hooks of the wire 0. The outer sides of the ends of the hooks G are grooved, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, to form a seat for the ends of locking-bar D, which are sprung into said grooves, and are held there by the elasticity of the said bar D.
If desired, the bar D may be made in two parts, pivoted to the double hook O at its center, so that each part may work independently of the other; or the double hook C may be made in 8 form, and a part of the bar D pivoted to each side of its center, as may be desired.
If desired, one of the hooks of the double hook C may be closed sufliciently to prevent it from passing out of the eye of its button to prevent the link from becoming detached from said eye while the buttons are being attached to the cuff.
In using the link, the link attached to the eye of one button is passed through the buttonhole in one end of the cuff. The eye of the other button is then passed through the button-hole in the other end of the cuff, and the link is connected with it upon the inner side of the cult, thus avoiding the necessity of passin g the button through the button-hole, and enabling buttons with large heads to be worn and conveniently attached to and detached from the cuffs. This invention also enables a single pair of links to be used with any desired number of sets of sleeve-buttons, as the style of dress and the occasion may require.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A link formed of the double hook G and the locking-bar D, pivoted to each other at the center, the ends of the said bar D adapted to rest in grooves in the said hooks and to turn on the pivot, as herein shown and described.
