The present invention relates to wearing apparel, and has for one of its objects to provide a garment in which the buttons are easily removed.

A further object of the present invention is the provision of fastening means for a garment and one that is removable from a garment.

A still further object of the present invention is to provide a garment in which the buttons are fastened on a strip and the whole strip removable from a garment when the garment is to be cleaned.

A still further object of the present invention is the provision of a garment in which the buttons may be removed and others substituted for different styles, colors, etc.

A still further object of the present invention is the provision of a garment in which the buttons will not pull off, tear or damage the material.

A still further object of the present invention is the provision of a garment which will permit a garment to be ironed without interference from buttons.

Other and further objects of the present invention will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

It is a well known fact that in garments today there is much concern over the fastening of garments. There have been various ways tried to successfully unite the open edges of a garment which have included zippers, snap fasteners, hook fasteners, etc., but nothing so far has taken the place of buttons in uniting the edges of garments especially womens and childrens blouses, and mens and boys shirts. This has been due to many reasons, a few of which are the inexpensiveness and attractiveness of buttons, their different colors as a fashion aid and the positive opening and closing of a garment without functional difiiculties such as are encountered in zippers, hook and eyes and etc.

There are still, however serious drawbacks to buttons, namely, the loss or damage to buttons and garments when being cleaned and pressed, or damage to the garments where the buttons 2 are pulled from the garment due to a tussel. Then to the trouble and time it takes to remove and replace buttons when different styles or colors are desired, or when some are lost or damaged, and the Whole group must be replaced. Also the material where buttons are sewed on is weakened and torn by constant pulling and then the garment must be patched or discarded. In an effort to strengthen the portion of the garment to which buttons are sewn, reinforcing strips have been added, but this results in increased bulk, which is unsuitable for blouses and other similar garments.

My invention overcomes these dimculties by providing a removable strip of buttons which is inserted beneath the fold of a blouse, shirt or other garment.

Referring to the drawing for a more detailed description of the invention, the numeral I0 represents a strip of any suitable material to which is secured by threads I I the attaching loop I2 of a plurality of buttons I3 and discs I4. The discs may be of any size or shape and they serve as a reinforcing member to securely hold the L buttons I3 to the strip III and prevents the buttons from tearing loose from the strip. Any type of button may be attached to the strip such as those without holes or cloth covered buttons.

Illustrating the device in use as shown in Figure 1, the numeral I5 represents a garment having a right hand portion I6 and a left hand portion I7 which are usually the front portion of a shirt or blouse, the garment being shown fragmentary. The edge portion I8 of the right hand portion I6 is turned under and forms a flap or pocket I9 as shown in Figure 4. The edge portion I8 is provided with a plurality of buttonholes 20 that are in alignment with buttonholes 2I that are usually provided on the left hand portion I1 of a garment, button-holes 20 being in opposed relation to button-holes 2|.

In using the present device the strip I0 is positioned in the flap or pocket I9 and the buttons I3 pushed through the button holes 20. The garment I5 is now equipped with fastening means and when it is desired to close the garment the buttons I3 are pushed through the button holes 2|, thus closing and securing a garment as partially shown in Figure 1. It can be seen that a garment provided with extra button-holes and the strip can be buttoned and unbuttoned just as any other garment having buttons afxed. It is also to be noted that the strip is free from the garment.

If desired the strip I0 may be provided with snap fasteners on its back face that would engage the male portion of snap fasteners on the garment, on the inner face of the pocket I9.

From the above description it can be seen that I have provided a detachable device as a closure means for shirts, blouses and the like, and one that prevents garments from being damaged by the breaking of buttons on a garment, or damage where the button is pulled off of a garment. 'I'he presentldeviceeliminates the sewing o'f buttons directly-to a garment, provides means where by shirts, blouses and the like may be laundered without damage to a garment.

From the foregoing description .when taken inv connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and operation will be apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains land I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may bemade within thescope of the claim appended.

What isclaimed is:

In combination, a lgaririerrt having overlapping edgesand a button strip, each .of said overlapping edges doubled back upon itself, one of said doubled back edges having aligned button holes through both portions, the other of said edges having button holes only through the outermost portion, a button strip inserted between said outermost and innermost portions on said last named doubled back edge, said button strip comprising a exible strip of suitable material having buttons of smaller diameter than said strip attached thereto onfon'e side, and' reinforcing 'members larger than said buttons 'and substantially the diameter of said strip on the opposite side of said strip, said reinforcing members being of a thickness substantially the .same as the strip secured through the strip to the buttons on the other side, *said buttons passing through said button holeson each of saiddoubled back edges.
