UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EMMIT G. LATTA, OF FRIENDSHIP, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF TVO-THIRDS TO ADRIAN C. LATTA, OF SAME PLACE, AND HARVEY D. BLAKESLEE,
OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
NECK-STRAP BUCKLE AND REIN-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of` Letters PatentV No. 264,713, dated September 19, 1882.
Application lcd March 9, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EM-Mi'r G. LATTA, of Friendship, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Il'nprovenient in Combined Neck-Strap Buckle and Rein-Ring, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple means for adjustably connecting the ro ends ot' the neck-stra p together and for guarding` the driving-reins and preventing t-he saine from catching under the thills.
My invention consists ot' a guide-ring through which the driving-rein passes, and which is provided with a buckle which can be secured to the one part ofthe neck-strap, and which is adapted to hold the end ot' the other part of the neck-strap, the ring and buckle serving at the same time to connect the ends of the neck- 2o strap and to guide the driving-rein, as will be hereinafter i'ully set iorth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a vertical section ot' my improved device applied to the neck-strap. Fig. 2 is a sideele ration, and Fig. 3 is a front elevation, thereof Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several ligures.
A represents the upper or folded part of the neck-strap, and B the lower or single part of 3o the same.
O represents a ring of oval or other suitable shape, through which the drivingrein is passed, and whereby the said rein is guided and supported and prevented from dropping down and catching under the thills.
D represents a buckle formed on the upper and inner side ot' the ring G and provided with a plate, d, which is riveted to the upper part, A, of the neck-strap, whereby the buckle and 4o the ring U are secured to the upper part ofthe neck-strap. The buckle may be constructed with a loose tongue, as shown, or with a rigid tongue, if preferred; and instead of constructing it with a plate, d, to be riveted to the neck-strap, it may be constructed with a loop,
which may be attached to the neck-strap by a small strap passing through it und secured to the neck-strap by sewing.
c represents the opening between the base of the buckle and the ring` U, through which 5o the end of the lower portion ot the neck-strap is drawn; and j' represents a loop, which is formed at the lower and inner side of the ring O, and through which the lower part, B, of the neclcstrap is also drawn, thereby holding the ring C snugly against the `neck-strap.
The lower bar of the loop j' may be formed into aplate similar to the plated, to be rivl eted to the upper portion, A, ot the neck-strap, it' said upper portion extends down far enough 6c to permit ot'such attachment. The buckle may be arranged below the ring C, it' preferred.
This improved device forms a neat and reliable connectionwbetween the two ends ot'the neckstrap. It permits the ready adjustment ot' the neck-strap on the buckle, and it at't'ords an efficient means for guiding and supporting the driving-reins, while it is simple, cheap ot' construction, and readily applied to the harness. 7o
I claim as my invention- 1. The guide-ring C, provided with abuckle,
D, which is adapted to receive and hold one end ot the neck-strap, and which is provided with a plate, d, or equivalent means, whereby 75 it is attached to the other end ot1 the neckstrap, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the guide-ring C, of the buckle D, formed on the ring G, and provided with a pla-te, d, or equivalent means, 8o whereby the buckle can be secured to the part A ot' the neck-strap, and a loop, f, through which the part B of the neck-strap can be drawn, substantially as set fort-h.
