RUSSELW. MINARD, OF LARNED, KANSAS.
TRACE-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 474,753, dated May 10, 1892.
' Application filed July 25, 1891. Serial No. 400,765- (No model.)
To ctZZ whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, RUssEL W. MINARD, of
The invention relates to harness; and its ob ject is to provide a new and improved trace support which is simple and durable in construction, conveniently supports the trace, and permits of being readily raised or lowered on the skirt to assume the proper position to carry the trace at the proper height, accord ing to thesize of the animal.
The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improvement, and Fig. 2 is a front view of the same.
The improved trace-support is provided with a metallic loop A, formed of two parts B and O, of which the front. part B is curved, as illustrated in Fig. 1, and is provided at its ends with flanges B and B connected with the ends of the slightly-curved parts 0 by ineans of the rivets D and D, as shown. Between the upper end of the part 0 and the top of the flange B is placed the shank E of an eye E, said shank being fastened between the two parts by the rivets D, as shown. The eye E engages the cross-bar F of the buckle F, provided with the usual tongue F and engaging a strap G, rigidly fastened at its upper end to the skirt H of the usual construction. The strap G is formed with a row of apertures G, one of which is adapted to be engaged at a time by the tongue F to perunit of raising or lowering the buckle F, and consequently the loop A, so as to raise or lower the trace passing through the loop.
On the lower end of the loop A, between the top of the flange B and the lower end of the part 0, is secured by the rivets D a strap I, extending downward and passing through a metallic loop J, fastened to the lower end of the skirt H. The strap I is provided with a row of apertures and is adapted to be buckled or otherwise fastened to the respective end of the belly-band.
It will be seen that the trace can be conveniently passed through the loop A to be supported therein, the loop with the trace being adapted to be raised or lowered so as to bring the trace into the proper position, according to the height of the animal. By raising and lowering the loop A the strap I is likewise raised or lowered so as to be in the proper position for the belly-band.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A trace-support consisting of the metallic loop A, formed of the parts B C, the part B being curved and provided with the flanged ends B B secured to the ends of the part 0, the eye E, having its shank secured between the upper ends of the parts of the loop, and the strap 1, secured between the lower ends of the parts of the said loop, substantially as described.
2. In a trace-support, the combination, with the skirt H, provided with the loop J at its lower end, and the strap G, secured to the skirt, of the metallic loop A, provided with the eye E, projecting from its upper end, and with the strap I, projecting from its lower end and passing through the keeper of theskirt, and the buckle F, engaging the strap G and having its cross-bar engaged by the eye of the loop, substantially as herein shown and described.
RUSSEL IV. MINARD.
