Description
n ALBERT H. HOOK,` OF Nnw YORK, N.` Y.
OLAMP FOR METAL STRAPS.` y
Specicatonof Letters Patent No.` 26,434, datedlecernbergiS, l li i k To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT H. HOOK, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and `useful Bale or Package Fastener for Fastening Metal Straps on Bales and Packages; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, referring to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1, is a perspective view of the fastener detached. Fig. 2, is a section with the two ends of the strap passed through the fastener. Fig. 3, isthe cut `metal wedge or nail for fastening.
My fastener or clamp is devised to effect a cheap convenient and sure fastening for thin metal binding straps for cotton and other bales and packages; it is constructed as follows: A hollow metal cylinder or cylindroid a (either cast iron malleable iron or wrought) is made with two lanches, one at each end at b, b. i y
The part between the anches has two nar-` row openings from flanch to {ianch opposite each other as seen at c. Through these openings the ends of the strap or band d d are passed and the wedged form of the nail e being driven between the two ends of the and drawn Y as ti ht as fdesired; thenjth y Strap they refheeby fastened securely@ `3:6
n To effect this most perfectlythe interorlof:
the cylinder should l be somewhat conical."V The point of the nail eshould be wedgefy shaped so as tomore readilyenterbetween"` the two strap ends withinthefoylinderli 35` To aiiix this fasteningfwhen the strapfisl put around the packagethe two ends are passed `through the `l holes inthe cylinder:`
wedge shaped en ofi thefnail `is inserted `and driven throughbetweenthe two parts" of the strap within the cylinder, whichwlf forces them outward each way and firmly" 1 grips them immovably. Torelease the fasu f` tening the nail is drivenback." 45` Having thus fullydescribed iny new fas? tening for bale and package strapslwhatl .claim therein as new andfor which I desire 3 to secure Letters Patentis-fq i p u The outer gripper a,fand1naile foi` fasten-` 150 ing the ends of bale andother strapsconf structed substantially as `land for thefpufr-` POSQS Seilfort-,IL p p p WtleSSS: u p 5,;
