Description

.(No Mode-21.) u n H. BARILE'I'T-l vMFLEGTOR PoR LAMPS, j l v No.26o,735. V Patented July 11, 1882.
N. PETERS, Phuaouiwgmpmf. wma nnnnnnn c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
HENRY F. BARTLETT, 0F LA GRANGE, MISSOURI.
REFLECTOR FOR LAMPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 260,735, dated July 11, 1882.
Application led May 31, 1882. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, HENRY F. BARTLETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at La Grange, in the county of Lewis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and use` ful Improvements in Reflectors for Lamps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective View of my invention; Fig. 2, a sectional elevation; Figs. 3 and 4, detail views thereof, and Fig. 5 a perspective view in detail of the clamping device for securing the reflector tothe lamp.
The prsent invention has reference to certain new and usefulimprovements in reiiectors for lamps; and the object thereof is to provide a reflector simple in construction and capable of beingreadil y connected to the ordinaryV handlamp, and removed at pleasure for cleaning or other purposes, or .when required to clean or till the lamp. These objects l attain by the construction substantially as shown in the drawings and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Arepresents the reflector in the form of a frustum of a cone, covered at its back by a concavo-convex disk, a, provided with a suitable bail or handle, b, hinged, pivoted, or otherwise connected to said disk.
It' desired, in place of the reflector being in the form of a frustum of a cone, as shown, with the disk connected to its back, it may run to a point in the shape. of a cone, this change being made at pleasure without departing from the principle of my invention.
At the top ofthe reflector A is an opening, o, for the reception of the upper end ot' the lamp-chimney. This opening is preferably of the form shown in Fig. 3, and extends across the front edge of the reflector, so that it can be removed horizontally without raising it up or being compelled -to first detach the chimney from the burner ofthe lamp.
VIhe reflector A, at its under side, has guideanges d, which tit over and upon a supporting-plate, B. This plate, at one end, has a clamping device for attaching it to the lamp, which consists of. a split spring collar, G, said collar passing around the collar of the lamp under the burner, and, if desired, the addition of a set-screw may be employed to more firmly secure the collar in place around the collar of the lamp.
It lwill be seen that by the above construction, and forming the reflector with the opening extending across its front edge, the rellector can bemoved Without handling and danger of breaking the chimney, the clamping device being left secured to the lamp.
The relector can be as readily and conveniently replaced, as it is detached from the snpporting-plate B. The plate, being flat and of considerable thickness and Width, forms a complete, strong, as Well as simple, support for the refiector.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The reector' A, having at its top the open- I ingo, extending across its front edge, as shown, and provided at its bottom with guide-flanges d,y in combination with the hat supportingplate, B,having connected toit the split spring collar C, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name inv the presence of two witnesses.
Witnesses:
JOSHUA M. Grens, O. H. GABY.
HENRY E. EAETLETT.
