SHIRT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 260,694, dated July 4, 1882.

Application filed February 1, 1882. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID LUBIN, of Sacrameuto city, in the county of Sacramento, and

in the State of California, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Shirts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the. letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

My invention relates to an'improvement in shirts; and the nature of my invention consists in a novel mode of reenforcing the seams of shirts, which will be fully understood from the following description, when taken in connection with the annexed drawing.

In the annexed drawing, the figure is a per spective view of a shirt, showing my invention applied to the sleeve, the armhole, and the slit at the tail.

A designates a shirt-sleeve; B, the body of the shirt; 0, the yoke; D, the slit or opening at the lower end of the skirt of the shirt; and E, the slit or opening at the cuff end of the sleeve. v

A cord, a, is stitched into the seam at the slit E, passing along one edgethereof, crossing the angle or crotch, and extending to the wristband along the opposite edge. Another cord, 1), is looped at a to the cord a, and sewed into the seam which extends along the sleeve to the point ofjunction with the armhole-searn, and is thence carried continuously downward to the angle of the slit D.

F designates a cord which is sewed into the armholeseam and which crosses the cord 12 at the point 0, at which point the two cords are securely fastened together. The cords b F prevent the fabric from being torn or the seams from being ripped at the point 0, as these two cords sustain all of the strain which is brought to bear on the shirt at said point. The cord 1) is looped at a to the cord a and stitched, so that the loop of one cord crosses the other.

At the slit D a cord, d, is applied similar to the cord at the slit of the wristband, and to this cord 01 is looped the cord 1), which latter is suitably secured to the side seam.

It will thus be seen that the upper end of the cord b is looped to the re-enforcing cord or at one end, crosses, and is secured to the armhole-cord F at the armpit, and is looped to the cord d of the slit D.

Having described my invention, I claim- The combination of the cord 01, binding the edges of the sleeve-slit E, the cord b, looped to cord a, extended along the sleeve-seam, the seam at the side of the shirt-body, and looped to a cord binding the edges of the slit D, and the armhole-cord crossing the cord b, all substantially as described.
