Specification of Letters Patent No. 25,893, dated October 25, 1859.

Be it known that I, B. lVnLLs D'UNKLEE, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Double-Action Valves for Stoves, Furnaces, &c.; and I do hereby declare that the same is fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1, is a vertical section of a stove with my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2, is a horizontal section of the same, taken through thedouble action valve, to be here inafter described.

My invention has reference to a double action valve and damper for regulating the entrance and exclusion of air from the smoke flue, and by means of which valve I not only regulate the quantity of cold air to be admitted to the stove or furnace, but at the same time I regulate the draft of the tire, ghereby economizing the consumption of the uel.

In the drawings, A, denotes a stove constructed with a fire pot B, an ash pit D, and a smoke flue E. Extending upward from the rear part of the ash pit, is a vertical flue F, which communicates with the smoke flue E, the communication between them being regulated by a damper G. I also construct the rear part of the ash pit with two openings h, h, to communicate with the external atmosphere, and I also construct the said rear part right angular, to contain a double action valve I-I, made with three sides a, b, 0, the two side portions a, 0, of which are to open or close the openings or passages 71, h, and the other portion 1), to open or close communication between the smoke space K, at the bottom of the stove or furnace, and the vertical flue F.

I do not claim the hoe valve, as that is the subject of an application sent to the Patent- Oflice by me some time since; but
