Description

(ModeL) 2 'Sheetes-eSheet 2.
J. O. MOSS.
COMBINED PLOW, HARROW, AND UULTIVATOR. No. 257,365. Patented May 2,1882.
.Attorneys UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN C. MOSS, OF ROSSTON, TEXAS.
COMBINED PLOW, HARRQW, AND CULTIVATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,365, dated May 2, 1882,
Application filed September 29, 1881. (Model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN 0. Moss, a citizen of the United States, and av resident of Rosston, in the county ofCooke and State ofTexas, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Combined Breaking-Flows, Harrows, and Unitivators; and I do hereby declare that the folthe front ends of side beams, D D.
lowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings,
' making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawingsis a representation ofa plan view ofthc device used as acultivator. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of Fig. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device used as a barrow, and Fig. 4'is a rear elevation of the the cross-beam B, and upon this and the cross- .beam B the tongue G is secured.
Braces H H extend from near the bases of the uprights U 0 to the cross-beam B at its junction with the tongue G. Braces I I extend from the side beams, D D, to the curved strap F, as shown. Curved braces J J are secured to the inner faces of the side beams, l) D, and extend back,- ward, and are supported by braces K K, extending up to the tongue, as shown. Pivoted perforated arms L L are journaled in the'side beams, D D, and the curved braces J J, and form the connections for the cultivator-beams M M, which are bifurcated in their forward ends and may be adjusted laterally on the arms L L. A plow-beam, N, is secured to the perforated strap or metal beam E, is provided with a clevis, and may he laterally adjusted thereon. The rear end of the plow-beam Nis pivoted in supporting-straps O, perforated at their upper ends and connected by a bolt,
T of the barrow-wheels Uduring the time the.
implement is to be used as a plow or cultivator. Double bearings V V are also provided, the upper portion of the bearings being secured to the rear faces of the uprights G O and the lower portions thereof to the under faces of the side beams, D D, at their rear ends, as shown, for the reception of the journals of the harrowwheels U when 'the implement is to be converted into a rotary harrow. The lever Q is employed to elevate the plow-beam N when the cultivators are to be used.
When the implement is to be used as a harrow the wheels having the laterally-projecting teeth a are removed from the double bearings S S andthe journals Tare inserted into the double bearings V V. The journals T are perforated near their inner ends, and keys of ordinary constructionare employed to hold them in place in either of the bearings,
From the foregoing it will be seen that the implement. may be used as a. breaking-plow, a cultivator, or a rotary barrow.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a combined implement, the frame A, composed of the cross-beam B, uprights G 0, side beams, D D, and draft-bar E, the frame being provided with the horizontal double bearings vS S and the vertical double bearings V V, the
curved braces J J, and the perforated pivoted arms L L, adapted for interchangeably connecting thereto the breaking-plow, the cultivators, and the barrow-wheels, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have I
