ascazss The clamps 30 are pivoted as at 33 to the vertical portions 28 and are normally urged to clamping position by the springs 34. A pair of these clamps are provided on the upper and under surfaces of the outer ends of the wiping head I5. It is evident that, by manipulation of the clamps 30, the fabric Washing strip and rubber squeegee strip may be replaced or reversed when necessary with a minimum of adjustment of the parts of the device.
In order to eliminate the necessity of taking the fabric strip out of the wiper and inserting the rubber squeegee strip, the wiping head I9 is pivoted on the threaded stud 35 between the Washer 36 and a nut 31, the upper end of the stud 35 having secured thereto a square block 38,. the opposite corners of which are arranged to be engaged by the spring detent strips 39 secured as at 40a to the bridging piece 21. The lower end of the stud 35 is shaped to provide a flattened portion 4D to the opposite sides of'vvhich the upper ends of the upper lazy tong levers are pivoted as at l. This flattened portion 40 of the wiping strip carrier prevents the head |9- from pivoting laterally or from having a longitudinal teetering action, the fiat portion d thus holding the wiping strip rmly against the pane of glass in either of the adjusted positions of said wiper. As illustrated in Fig. 3, in dot and dash lines, the wiping head I9 may be rotated to bring either the cloth cleaning member 3| or the squeegee strip 32 against the window pane.
In the Figs. r-10, inclusive, a slightly modified form of structure is shown which provides for a wiping head 50 having arms 5| at the opposite sides and ends thereof which are arcuately shaped to receive in clamping contact cylindrically shaped rods 52 pivoted as at 53 to the inside of the bridge centerpiece 54 from which the arms 5l extend.
This bridging piece 54 is mounted on a threaded stud 55 between a nut 55 and a squared block 51, the latter of which is secured to the upper end of the stud 55. The head is thus mounted for rotation and is held in either of its adjusted positions by the spring detent strips 58 and 59 which are secured to the member 54 in any suitable manner.
The rods 52 are forced to seat in the arms 5I by springs 60 positioned between said rods 52 on guide pins Si at a point adjacent the pivots 53. It is evident that, by manual manipulation of any of the rods 52 against the yielding action of the springs 6U, the fabric 62 or the rubber squeegee strip 83 may be replaced. To assist in the manual operation of the rods 52, the outer ends thereolc may be provided with the finger pins 4[i5 which may be engaged by the nger of the operator to swing the rods 52 open for the insertion of the rubber or cloth members. Y
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as dened in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In a window washing device having a vertical lazy tong structure for extension along the outer surface of a window pane and terminating at its top end in a vertical stud,a horizontal pair of spaced parallel arms one for supporting a 4 wiping cloth and the other for supporting a rubber squeegee, a bridging piece connecting said arms intermediate of their ends and formed with an opening through which the stud rotatively extends, means retaining said bridging piece rotatively in position on said stud, and means for holding said bridging piece in turned positions on said stud with either of said arms engaging the window pane, said holding means comprising a square block mounted on said stud above said bridging piece, said square block being mounted on said stud with a line extending through a pair of opposed corners extended parallel to said arms when one thereof engages the window pane, and spring detent strips mounted at their one ends on said bridging piece and having their free ends engaging and gripping said opposed corners.
2. In a window washing device having a vertical lazy tong structure for extension along the outer surface of a Window pane and terminating at its top end in a vertical stud, a horizontal pair of spaced parallel arms one for supporting a wiping cloth and the other for supporting a rubber squeegee, a bridging piece connecting said arms intermediate of their ends and formed with an opening through which the stud rotatively extends, means retaining said bridging piece rotatively in position on said stud, and means for holding said bridging piece in turned positions on said stud with either of said arms engaging the window pane, said holding means comprising a square block mounted on said stud above said bridging piece, said square block being mounted on said stud with a line extending through a pair of opposed corners extended parallel to said arms when one thereof engages the window pane, and spring detent strips mounted at their one ends on said bridging piece and having their free ends engaging-'and gripping said opposed corners, said opposed corners being right angular and said detent strips having their free ends shaped to conform to the right angular formation of said opposed corners.
3. In a window washing device having a vertical lazy tong structure for extension along the outer surface of a window pane and terminating in a vertical stud, a wiping head mounted on the stud and comprising in combination a horizontal pair of spaced parallel arms, one for supporting a wiping cloth and the other for supporting a rubber squeegee, means for clamping a wiping cloth and a rubber squeegee in position on said arms, a bridging piece connecting said arms intermediate of their ends and formed with an opening through which the stud rotatively extends, means retaining said bridging piece rotatively in position on said stud, and means for holding said wiping head in position on said stud with either of its'two arms engaging the Window pane, said holding means comprising a square block mounted on said stud above said bridging piece, said square block being mounted on said stud with 'a line extending through a pair of opposed corners extended parallel to said arms when one thereof engages the window pane, and spring detent strips mounted at their one ends on said bridging piece and having their free ends engaging said opposed corners.
4. In a window Washing device having a, vertical lazy tong structure for extension along the outer surface of a Window pane and terminating in a vertical stud, aA wiping head mounted on the stud, comprising a horizontal pair of spaced paralleljarms, one for supporting a wiping cloth andthe other for supporting a rubber squeegee,
means for clamping a wiping cloth and a rubber squeegee in position on said arms, a bridging piece connecting said arms intermediate of their ends, Said arms being arcuately curved in a direction away from each other forming concaved inner faces, said clamping means comprising cylindrical clamp rods pivotally attached to said bridging piece and extended in opposite directions therefrom between said arms for clamping a, wiping cloth and a rubber squeegee against said concaved inner faces of said arms, resilient means urging said rods into engagement with the inner faces of said arms, and means at the outer ends of said rods for facilitating manual pivoting of said rods away from said arms against the action of said resilient means.
5. In a window washing device having a vertical lazy tong structure for extension along the outer surface of a window pane and terminating in a vertical stud, a wiping head mounted on the stud, comprising a horizontal pair of spaced parallel arms, one for supporting a wiping cloth and the other for supporting a rubber squeegee, means for clamping a wiping cloth and a rubber squeegee in position on said arms, a bridging piece connecting said arms intermediate of their ends, said arms being arcuately curved in a direction away from each other forming concaved inner faces, said clamping means comprising cylindrical clamp rods pivotally attached to said bridging piece and extended in opposite directions therefrom between said arms for clamping a wiping cloth and a rubber squeegee against said concaved inner faces of said arms, resilient means urging said rods into engagement with the inner faces of said arms, and means at the outer ends of said rods for facilitating manual pivoting of said rods away from said arms against the action of said resilient means, said resilient means comprising aligned pairs of pins extended toward each other from opposed pairs of said rods adjacent their pivots, and expansion springs extended between said aligned pairs of pins.

In a window washing device having a vertical lazy tong structure for extension along the outer surface of a Window pane and terminating in a vertical stud,` a wiping head mounted on the stud, comprising a horizontal pair of spaced parallel arms, one for supporting a wiping cloth and the other for supporting a rubber squeegee, means for clamping a wiping cloth and a rubber squeegee in position on said arms, a bridging piece connecting said arms intermediate of their ends, said arms being arcuately curved in a direction away from each other forming concaved inner faces,
said clamping means comprising cylindrical clamp rods pivotally attached to said bridging piece and extended in opposite directions therefrom between said arms for clamping a wiping cloth and a rubber squeegee against said concaved inner faces of said arms, resilient means urging said rods into engagement with the inner faces of said arms, and means at the outer ends of said rods for facilitating manual pivoting of said rods away from said arms against the action of said resilient means, said means for facilitating manual pivoting comprising finger pins extended vertically from the outer ends of said rods to be conveniently gripped.

In a window washing device as claimed in claim 1 wherein cross pieces are extended between th-e outer ends of said parallel arms on opposite sides of said bridging piece, and clips mounted on said cross pieces to engage vthe wiping cloth and the rubber squeegee for retaining them in position on said parallel arms.

In a window washing device as claimed in claim 1 wherein cross pieces are extended between the outer ends of said parallel arms on opposite sides of said bridging pi-ece, and clips mounted onsaid cross pieces to engage kthe wiping cloth and the rubber squeegee for retaining them in position on said parallel arms, said cross pieces having oppositely extended vertical portions, said vertical portions between said parallel arms and at right angles to said parallel arms, said clips being pivotally mounted on said vertical portions to bear against the to'p and bottom faces of said parallel arms.

In a window Washing device asvclaimed in claim 1 wherein cross pieces are yextended between the outer ends of said parallel arms on opposite sides of said bridging piece, and clips mounted on said cross pieces to engage the wiping cloth and the rubber squeegeejfr retaining them in position on said parallel arms, said cross pieces having oppositely extended vertical portions, said vertical portions between said parallel arms and at right angles to said parallel arms, said clips being pivotally mounted on said vertical portions to bear against the top vand bottom faces of said parallel arms, and resilient means urging said clips into their operative positions engaged with said parallel arms.
