Application August 2, 1948. Serial No. 41,965
. ms Claims. (01. 160-172) An important object of the invention is to provide a Venetian blind structure in which the tape for tilting the louvres or slats of the blind are concealed from view.
A further object of the invention is to provide guide channels at the sides of a window frame for the side edges of the blind and in which the blind tilting tapes are positioned and providing clips connecting the tapes to the ends of the slats or louvres and by means of which the slats or louvres may be easily and quickly removed, when desired. i
A still further object of the invention is to provide a Venetian blind of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, efiicient and reliablein operation,'rela tively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise Well adapted for the purposes for which the same isintended.
The blindtilting tapes are shown generally at which include a pair of'spaced apart vertical tapes I I connected by cross tapes I2. The upper ends of the vertical tapes H are connected to the ends of a rigid cross bar l3 and in which the ends of a tilting rod l4- are secured. The ends of the tilting rod [4 are journaled in openings l5 in the onset channel 1 of guide 6.
The tilting tape l0 including the upper cross bar I3 is positioned in the guide 6 andsubstantially H-shaped clips I6 which include spaced parallel bars l'land l8 rigidly connected to each other by a connector 19, also have one edge po- Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed; reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which: 7
Figure 1 is a front elevational view;
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially on a line 2--2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view of the tilting mechanism taken substantially on a line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view of one end of the head board showing the lifting cord pulleys and cord locking means;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of one of the guide'channels for the tilting tapes;
Figure 6 is a similar view of the tape removed from the channels;
Figure 7 is a fragmentary perspective view of,
one of the slats or louvres with the attaching clip shown thereon; and
Figure 8 is a fragmentary sectional view taken substantially on a line 88 of Figure l and showing the connector for one end of the bottom board.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose ofillustration we have disclosed preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates a window frame to each side of which is secured a substantially channeled guide 6 having a rear channeled offset 7 and having inwardly projecting flanges 8 at its front edge to provide a vertical slot 9 at the front surface of the guide.
sitioned in the guide. The outer edges of the bar 11 are channeled as shown at 20 and 2|, respectively, the channel 20 of bar I! being clipped on the cross tapes l2 and-the channel 2|.receiving the end portion of a louvre or slat 22 for detachably connecting the'slat thereto. Fins 23 project from the surface of-the slats and are positioned at opposite ends'of the bar l8 to prevent transverse'shifting movement of the slats in the clips, the slats being sufliciently flexible to permit bending thereofto slide the ends of the slats outwardly from the channels 2| of the clips to remove and replace the slats when desired.
.The bars I! of the clips are positioned in the guide 6 with suificient freedom to permit vertical sliding movement thereof as well as for tilting movement of the clips by the tapes Ill.
The bottom board of theblind assembly is designated at 24 and is provided at each end with a substantially H-shaped connector 25 having one side positioned in guide 6 to the ends of which the vertical tapes I l are secured. The inner edge of the connector. 25 is formed with a tongue 26 projecting into the offset channel 1 to which the lower end of, a lifting cord 21 is attached.
. The lifting cords at each end of the blind extend 3| journaled in a bearing bracket 32 secured to the underside of the head board 29 adjacent one end thereof, theshaft having a pulley 33 suitably secured atone end and a worm 34 suitably secured at its, other end. The pulley. is
rotated by the usual tilting cord 35. The worm 34 engages a worm gear 36 secured to tilting rod l4 whereby the rotation of shaft 3| by Pulley 33 will cause a rocking movement of tilting rod M to oppositely raise and lower the vertical tapes I I and thus tilt the slats or louvres 22 in a desired direction.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the tilting tape assemblies ID are concealed in the channel guide 6 at each side of the blind and the bottom board 24 of the blind may be raised or lowered by the lifting cord'21 which thus raises or lowers the blind in the usual manner.-
The slats or louvres 22 may be easily and quickly removed from the attaching clips it merely by sliding the ends of the slats fromsthe channels 2| of the clips.
In View of the foregoing description taken in ably and tiltably positioned in the guide channels and connecting the ends of the slats to the cross tapes, cords extending downwardly in the guide channels and attached at their lower ends to the connectors for the bottom board to raise the bottom board and the slats, and slat tilting means carried by the head board and connected to the rod to rock the rod for oppositely raising and lowering said pairs of tapes.
2. 'InaVeneti'an blind construction, a plurality of slats, a slat tilting device at each end of the conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there .is herein shown and described. a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehe'nded by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what. is claimed as new is:
l. A Venetian blind comprising a fixed .head
board and a vertically movable bottom board, a pair of vertical guide channels at each .end of the bottom board, a tilting rod rockably sup- .ported in said guide channels under the head board, rigid cross members secured to the ends of the rod and positioned in the .guide channels for tilting movement, a .pair of tapes attached attheir upper ends to the ends of the cross members and extending downwardlytherefrom inithe "guide channels, cross tapes carried by the pairs of tapes, connectors projecting from the ends of the bottom board intothe guide channels for vertical sliding and tilting movement said connectors beingattached to the lower ends of said pairs of tapes, a plurality of slats positioned .be-
tween the head and bottom boards, means :slidslats and including a tilting tape of ladder-like construction, flat rigid clips at the ends of the slats and having channels at their opposite edges respectively receiving the ends of the slats and the-cross tapes of the tilting tape to connect the slats to the tape, and means carried by the slats engaging the side edges of the clips tocenter the slats therein.
3. In a Venetian DIiIldiCOIlStIUCtlOIl, a plurality of slats, a-slat tilting device at each end of the slats and including a tilting tape of ladder-like construction, flat rigid clips at the ends of the slats:andhavingchannels at theiropposite edges respectively receiving the ends'oi the slats and the cross tapes of the tilting tape to connect the slats to the tape, and pins carried by the slats engaging the side-edges of the clips to center \the slats therein.
