This invention relates to frames and more particularly to screen frames or the like.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a frame made from a molding comprising an elongated outer or front member and an elongated inner or rear member.
Another object of the invention is to provide a frame of the character indicated, the longitudi nal marginal portions of the members of which are engaging each other interlockingly to hold the members together.
A further object of the invention is to provide a frame of the character' indicated, the abutting end surfaces of the molding pieces of which are mitered to form a rectangular joint and are held in .position by flat L-shaped corner members the Shanks of which are disposed ybetween the end portions of the front and rear members.
An ladditional object of the invention is to provide a frame of the character indicated, the corner members of which are secured to the rear members by means of rivets or the like, the front 'ends of which are covered by the front member.
The invention consists in the details of con* struction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved frames whereby certain advantages are attained, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order that my invention may be better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a frame constructed in accordance with an embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an exploded View of Figure 2 with parts in section and in perspective;
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken through a front member; I
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view illustrating another embodiment of the invention;
Figure 6 is a transverse sectional view illustrating -a further embodiment of the invention; and
Figure 7 is an exploded View of the invention as ern-bodied in Figure 6, the parts being both in section and perspective.
The frame as embodied in Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 comprises two transverse end pieces I0 of moulding and two longitudinal side pieces I I of moulding. Each end of each of the pieces I0 and Il is mitered at an angle of approximately forty-five degrees as at I2, so that the abutting transverse and longitudinal moulding pieces form angles of ninety degrees with each other.
Each moulding piece I and II comprises an outer or front member I 3 made from a flat elongated piece of suitable material for instance aluminum or the like, of desired suitable length. One longitudinal marginal portion I4 of each front member I3 is bent at right angles to the main portion of said member, and each main portion is bent longitudinally as at i5 to extend at an obtuse angle in the opposite direction to the marginal portion I4. The direction in which thelatter portion extendsv is called hereinafter forwardly yand the marginal portion I4 is the outer edge portion of the member I3. The inner marginal longitudinal portion I6 is bent rearwardly upon itself to form a groove Il.
Each frame moulding piece I0 and I I comprises also a rear member I8 made from a flat elongated piece of suitable material such as aluminum or ythe like, and one longitudinal marginal portion I9 of each rear member I8 is bent so that it has an S-shaped cross section and extends forwardly from the main portion of the rear member I8. The rear member I8 of each moulding piece I0 and I I is disposed on the rear surface of the corresponding front member I3 so that y'the edge of the front cross piece oftheV- S-shaped portion I9 enters the groove I7 and the edge of the main portion of the rear member I8 extends outwardly toward the bent marginal `portion i4 of the front member I3. VThe edge of the bent marginal portion I6 of the front member I3 enters the inwardly directed front groove 20 of the S-shaped edge portion I9 of the rear member I8. The marginal portion I4 is bent inwardly as at ZI over the rear face of the main portion of the rear member i8 so that the two members I3 and I8 interlock with each other. -v l The assembled moulding pieces I0 and II are connected with each other to form a frame by means of flat L-shaped corner Ypieces 22, the shanks 23 of which are inserted in the abutting moulding pieces I0 and II so that one of their longitudinal marginal portions is disposed in the rear groove 24 of the S-shaped edge portion of the rear member I8 and the other longitudinal marginal portion is located in the groove 25 formed by the bent portion I4 of the front member I3 and forwardly of the rear member I8.
To facilitate the assembling of the frame each shank 23 of each L-shaped corner piece 22 is provided with a hole 26 and each rear member I8 with a correspondingly arranged hole 2l. The rear members I8 are connected with each other by securing the corner pieces 22 to the abutting rear members I8 by means of rivets 28 o r the like.
The front members I3 are then arranged on to .form a groove Afl.
the corresponding rear members I8 so that the rearwardly bent edge portions I6 are disposed in the front groove 20 of the S-sh-aped portion of the rear portion. Then the marginal portion I4 of the front member I3 is bent as described above to secure the members I3 and I8 together. The front members I3 cover the rivets 28.
Figure 5 shows a cross section of a slightly modified l'form of a moulding piece comprising a front member 29 and =a rear 'member 30. The iiat front member 29 has a hook shaped inner marginal portion 3I forming a groove 32 and an outer marginal portion 33 bent rearwardly to form a groove 34 extending further rearwardly than the groove 32. The grooves 32 and v314i are facing each other. The rear flat member 30 is formed similar to the rear member 18 `and has an inner longitudinal marginal portion 35 with an S-shaped cross section. 'The outer longitudinal `marginal portion .of the rear member 30 is .bent forwardly upon itself 4and forms an outwardly opening ,groove 36. When .the .mould members '3U and 29 are assembled by .inserti-ng the free edge portion of the .S-shaped .portion 35,.'into thegroove `3.2 and .by locating the free edge portion .37 .of the `portion 33 oi the .front member 29 .in the groove .-35 of the rear member 331. If desired .a corner .piece v22 can .be used for .securing abutting molding 4pieces together.

To secure the moulding pieces and the corner members 49 in assembled formation the latter are provided with holes 5I and the rear member 46 with holes 52 arranged so that the holes 5I coincide with the holes 52 when the corner members 49 are inserted in the moulding pieces. Rivets 53 secure the corner pieces 49 and the rear members it to each other. 1
