My invention relates in general to garment hangers and in particular to a garment hanger by Which laundered articles of clothing, such as lingerie, hosiery, and the like, may be suspended while drying.

The principal object of my invention is to provide a collapsible hanger of two-part construction for suspending small articles of clothing while drying.

Another object is to provide a hanger, the parts of which may be readily disassembled and arranged in compact manner for storage.

Another object is to provide a hanger having a body part formed with a plurality of spaced longitudinal slots through which articles to be dried may be passed.

A further object is to provide a hanger having a body part formed with oppositely arranged notches in its ends into which wet garments may be gently pressed after they have been stretched longitudinally across the [body part.

Moreover, my hanger is of such nature that it may be inexpensively made from any one of a number of suitable plastics, thereby producing a finished article which resists rust and other deteriorating action.

Furthermore, my device is so designed and constructed that it is substantially snag-proof and, therefore, safe to use with the finest garments.

The above objects and advantages have been accomplished by the device shown in the accompanying drawings, of which:

Fig. 1 is an isometrical perspective view of my device;

Fig. 2 is a somewhat enlarged side sectional elevation taken on line II-II of Fig. 1; and,

Fig. 3 is a plan View showing the parts disassembled and in compact arrangement ready for storage or transportation.

My device comprises a body part 5 and a hook part 6. The body part is rectangular in shape and is formed with a number of spaced longitudinally arranged slots Hi. These slots are preferably :parallel to each other and to the side edges II of the body. The body part, when in use, is disposed in such position that its top and bottom surfaces lie in substantially horizontal planes, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so that when a garment is threaded through any two of the slots It? or through one of these slots and around one of the side edges H, it will be supported by the intervening flat surface of the body, and those portions of a garment suspended from the device will thereby be held in spaced relation with each other, whereby drying thereof will be facilitated.

Each end 12 of the body part is formed with a pair of obliquely arranged slots 15 which converge toward the longitudinal center line of the body and each of which terminate in anaperture IS. The formation of these slots provides a central tab portion 20 at each end of the body part which is separated from the end portion 2i at each side of said tab and adjacent the longitudinal side edges l l of the body part. The slots I5 are preferably tapered inwardly and provide means for holding garments therein. When a larger article of apparel, such as a article of lingerie is to be dried in my hanger, it is stretched across one of the outer longitudinal edges of the body part and the portions coming opposite the slots l5 are folded and gently pressed into the slots and communicating holes, whereby the article is securely fastened in place. Due to the tapered formation of the slots l5 and their inward inclination toward each other, the weight of the wet garment held thereby, will help to more firmly grip the same and hold it in place while drying.

The hook part 6 of the device comprises an upper end 22 which is providedwith a return bend 23, whereby it may be suspended from any suitable object, such as a towel rack, a shower curtain rod, or the like. The lower end 24 of the hook part is preferably tapered across its major dimension and disposed within a slot 25 formed in the central portion I3 of the body part. The hook part when being assembled has its end 23 first passed upwardly through theslot and then the a handkerchiefs, and the like, at the same time, it is obvious that the lighter articles such as the stockings and handkerchiefs may be passed through the parallel slots 10, while the larger articles may be held in place by engagement with the oblique slots l5. While I have described my device for use in drying lingerie, hosiery and the like, it is obvious that it is equally useful as a hanger for wet wash cloths, guesu or hand towels, underwear, or baby clothes.

Instead of fastening the hook part 6 to the body part by means of the tapered portion at the lower end of the hook part, this portion may be made substantially the same longitudinal dimension as that of the engaging slot 25 in the body part and stops in the form of lugs or abutments may be provided on the lower end of the hook part, formed either on the edge surfaces or on the face surfaces. Obviously, all edges of my device are smooth or rounded to avoid any snags or cuts in the garments supported thereby.

These and other modifications of the details herein shown and described may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A garment hanger comprising a substantially horizontally arrange-d one-piece body and a separate vertically arranged one-piece hook part for suspending said body part, means for detachably securing said body part to said hook part at substantially right angles to each other, said body part being formed with a plurality of spaced slots closed at both ends and having substantially parallel sides for freely suspending the articles being dried in non-clamping manner, said slots being arranged parallel to each other in a substantially horizontal plane and spaced symmetrically about said hook part.

A garment hanger comprising a substantially horizontally arranged one-piece body part, and a separate vertically arranged one-piece hook part for suspending said body part, means for detachably securing said body part to said hook part at substantially right angles to each other, said body part being formed on each side of its longitudinal center with spaced longitudinally arranged parallel slots closed at their ends, said body parts being also formed in each of its end portions with two spaced tapered slots opening into the outer edges of said body part, said slots forming pairs at each side of the longitudinal center line of said body part and converging inwardly toward each other for the wedging reception of garments being dried.
