J. W. HUDSON.
HAME.
I No. 252,220. Patented Jan..1 0,'1882 Jim;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HUDSON, OF WELLINGTON, ILLINOIS.
HAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,220, dated January lo, 1882,
Application filed November 15, 1881. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. HUDSON, a citizen of the United States, residingat Wel lington, in the county of Iroquois and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hames; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilledin the art to which itiappertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which I I Figure l is a side view of my improvement in hame tug-loops and clip. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a sectional view, showing loop.
This invention relates to an improvement upon my ha me tug and bracket patented July 5, 1881, and numbered 243,777, its object being to promote strength, durability, and security against the tearing loose of the bracket and the tug-loops; and it consists in the detach-ability of the brackets fitted upon the hame, and providing them with hinged or articulated tug clips or bars, having cast therewith loops, substantially as hereinafter more fully set forth. I
Referring to the accompanying drawings, A is the cast hame-bracket, adapted to fit or he slipped upon the hame. It is fastened to the hame B by a V-shaped key or wedge, a, inserted intoa corresponding groove or recess, a, made in the bracket and between the bracket and hame. This groove may, if desired, be made tapering in the direction of its length,
to aid the wedging of the key in a locked position. To the bracket A is hinged or articulated a bar or clip, 0, having cast therewith the loop D, through which passes the free end of the trace. The hame-tug is secured to the clip or bar 0 by rivets, which pass through the hame-tug and the perforations a. At the rear end of the hame-tugis provided, as usual, a buckle for connecting the trace thereto.
This device is characteristic for its simplicity, and provides a ready and substantial method of detachably securing the bracket to the hame and the clip to the hame-tug and trace,which prevents the tearing or pulling 0E of the loop and the tug from the tug-clip by the forcible contact thereof with a hitchingpost, stall, or other surface.
Having thus fully described myinvention, I claim and desire to secure byLetters Patent- 1. The articulated clip 0, having perforations 0, adapting it to be rivet-ed to a tug, and loop D, arranged at right angles to the clip 0, all cast in one piece, in combination with a hame-bracket, as and for the purpose set forth. 2. The combination of the hame B with the bracket A, cast in one unbroken piece and having a V-shaped tapering groove, a, V shaped key a, and perforated clip 0, cast in one piece with loop D,substantial ly as and for the purpose set forth.
'In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
A JOHN HUDSON.
