More particularly the front board I2 comprises a fiat frame l6 of some suitable outline, e. g. rectangular, provided with a large central aperture l8. At the time it is out, the frame has integral marginal portions 20, 22 and 24 extending from its two side edges 26, 28 and bottom edge 30, respectively. V the frame sothat when the marginal portions are infolded their inner edges 60, 62 and 64, indicated by dot and dash lines in Fig. 5, will be spaced outwardly from the corresponding. edges 66, 68, III of the aperture l8. By this arrangement I provide a shallow recess R behind the frame IS, the walls of which are defined by the marginal portions, this recess being slightly larger than and circumscribing the central aperture, and, in addition, opening at the top edge I2 of the frame.

It will be apparent that if an additional element such as the rear board I4 should now be laid upon the inturned marginal portions a pocket P will be formed in back of the front board, the depth of which is equal to the thickness of the marginal portions, so that said marginal portions conjointly act as a spacer element.

The back board may b laid directly upon the inturned marginal portions and secured thereto so as to provide a pocket or, if desired and as shown herein, the pocketmay be made deeper by forming the rear board I 4 with inturned marginal portions in a manner similar to the front board. Thus, the rear board may comprise a central cardboard portion I4 covered on its rear face with a wrapper l8. Said board has side and bottom marginal portions 80, 82, 84 secured to the associated sides of th rear board by an integral hinge consisting of linear zones of the cardboard 14 adjacent its front face. Said hinges are formed by slitting the back board through the back wrapper and almost all the way through the cardboard portion I4.

The marginal portions have their corners trimmed in the same manner as the front board and then are 'infolded and held in place by a film 86 of a cementitious material like glue. The marginal portions of the rear board preferably are of such size as to define an area identical to the area defined by the marginal portions of the front board, save for height, that is to say, the area defined by the rear marginal portions is slightly shorter than that defined by the marginal portions of the front board. Furthermore, the back board is slightly smaller than the front board (see Figs. 24) in order that its edges may not show from the front of the device.

When placing the back board on the front board the marginal portions of both boards are placed face to face with their inner edges registered. Said marginal portions are permanently secured to each other by a film of a cementitious material -88 like glue.

The frame as thus far described is complete enough for use. However, I may employ certain adjuncts which make the frame easier to use. Thus I can incorporate a layer 90 of a transparent material such as regenerated cellulose (celloph-ane) which covers the opening I8 and is dis- ,posed in back of the same to prevent the contents of the frame from becoming dirty or covered with dust. The cellophane can be adhesively secured to the back of the front board b a layer 92 of adhesive. In addition, the rear board I4 may be pierced by a plurality of holes 94 whose function will be pointed out hereinafter. The rear board can be provided with :a suitable hanger 96 of any well known construction comprising by way of example a flexible panel 08 held by a layer of glue I to the rear surface of the back board, said panel being provided with an apertur I02 for hanging. Optionally the panel may be reinforced with a paper washer I04 around the aperture I02. Also the rear board may be provided with a glossy paper panel IS on which a picture I06 (Fig. 6) is suitably imprinted so that in back of the sheets.

if the frame is hung without anything in the pocket it will present a pleasing appearance. Furthermore, suitable printed matter or the like, e. g. advertising, can be carried by the panel I6.

In the pocket P formed as above described I insert one or more sets of sheets I08 having calendars imprinted on one or both sides thereof as exemplified in Fig.- 1.- It will be appreciated that if the frame is supplied with a calendar, after it has been used for the period of time covered by the sheets I08, it then can be employed as a pic ture frame by slipping a picture into the pocket P, or, even if a picture is not inserted,- th frame still will serve as an attractive ornament with the picture I06 always in place. When the sheets I08 are inserted there is a tendency for air to remain This is overcom by the vent holes 94.

It may be noted that the divers marginal portions 20, 22, 24, 80, -82 and 84 may be completely severed from their associated boards and held in place solely by glue or the like, although the construction illustrated is preferr d inasmuch as itenables the parts of the frame to be handled more easily during fabrication.

It will thus be seen that I have provided a frame which achieves the several objects of my invention and is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.

As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to b understood that all matter herein described or shown in the accompanying drawings is tobe interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

A frame comprising a front paper board having a through aperture, a rear paper board, the inner surface of at least one of said boards being covered by a wrapper, a spacer element including in- I turned marginal portions at the edges of said one board, said one board having a slit extending partially therethrough on its exterior surface substantially up to said wrapper whereby to define th inner edges of said marginal portions, said portions being folded back with the wrapper of each marginal portion abutted against the wrapper of the board, the slit thereby being open with its sides 180 apart to define an edge of the frame,

and means to secure said spacer element to both said boards.
