The numeral 2 indicates a second foundation or reinforcing material designed to give body and strength to the backmg or foundation. By thus constructing the 4fr`ame,h' lder, or mount, the same may be made highly ornamental, since the facial member 6 may be made of material in color and character markedl in contrast with the color and character o the subfacial member 5. Furthermore, the structure, as thus produced, provides a surrounding raised framing for the picture, calendar or other artlcle, which, in a measure, protects the latter when a number -of the holders or frames are packed for transportation.

The foundation member, how` ever, is composed of a single piece ofr substantial material 7 with its center removed so as to provide 'an opening of larger d1- mensions Ythan the opening in the sub-facial member 5. This produces a receptacle in which a icture, calendar,` diploma', etc., 3 may be Faced to rest against the inner portionof t e sub-facial member 5. The foundation 7 has applied to its back a sheet of light material 8, such as a hea manila or similar strong paper, the same` eing glued to the foundation 7 around its bottom and side edges, but left vfree at its top edge so as to provide a slit 9 through which the article 3 maybe inserted into the receptacle formed between the sub-facial member 5 and the backing 9. To prevent'dust or dirt from entering the slit 9, a iap l10 is provided at the top of the backing 8 and secured to the foundation 7 so as to fold over upon the backing'S.' This flap 10 may be sealed, if desired, against the backingv 8 vin manner .similar to an envelope. Thus the article 3 o may be inserted in the` receptacle -of the holder and temporarily securely held, in` pllzlilce, kept clean and otherwise protected. 's structureenables the holder to *be used both as a frame or ornament, an advertising medium, for display purposes, and also as a medium for transporting flat articles-without bending or breaking. In combination with a foundation, facial and sub-facial members mounted as a unit upon the foundation, the unit members and foundation bein cut away centrally, and the foundation having a backing applied thereto to close the opening therein, said backing being secured to the foundation around three edges, and an unsecured edge providing a slit through which anarticle'may beinserted, and a ila ap liedl to the foundation for covering t e s t, substantially as described.
