This invention relates to newand useful improvements'in cigarettes, and more particularly to a match tip cigarette which may be lighted without requiring matches. The invention also may be'applied to cigars, and other smoking devices.

More specifically, the invention proposes the introduction of a cigarette or the like havin a match tip mounted in and projecting from one end bywhich it may be lighted when desired. The dominating feature of thisconstruction rcsides :in the fact that no matches are needed with the new cigarette or the like and it is not necessary to-supplysmokers with the usual book of matches, or boxes of matches. Moreover, the annoyance of having to look for a match is eliminated.

The invention contemplates providing the package of cigarettes with a striker area so that when one of the match tip cigarettes is removed, it may be lighted by rubbing it in the usual way, across the striker area.

Another object of the invention resides in the fact that the construction and design of the match tip cigarettes is such that they may be manufactured and sold at a low cost.

In Fig. 1 there is shown a package of cigarettes [0 provided with a match striker element ll mounted on one end, or any portion thereof. This package ill includes a plurality of cigarettes I2, each of which is provided with a match tip l4 mounted in and projecting from one end. a The match tip I4 comprises the usual ignitible material found upon the ends of matches. The match tip I4 is embedded into the tobacco in the end of the cigarette, to be in position while the cigarette is lighted. A support member [5 is mounted through the end portion of the cigarette, and is engaged beneath the bottom of 14 also provided with an'eyelet 18 through which the support wire 15 passes. The match tip i4 may be formed on the eyelet 18, b the usual. dipping process. With this construction, the match tip i l will be held secure, particularly when theccigarette is mis-handled and 'some'tobacco falls out of the end.

in packages such as illustrated in Fig. 1. There are usually 20 cigarettes to each package. The bottom corner of the wrapper may be torn, to expose some of the cigarettes, which may be removed. Instead of requiring a match to light the cigarette, it is merely necessary to strike the end of the cigarette across the striker ll so that the match tip 14 engages the striker II and bursts out into flame. This flame is sufficient to light the end of the cigarette.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new. and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:

l. A cigarette having an outer casing enclosing the usual tobacco filler, comprising a reinforcement member encircling the outer casing of the cigarette at one end while leaving the end area completely exposed, a match tip embedded partially into the exposed end of the cigarette and formed with an eyelet in its embedded portion, and an anchorage member for the match tip passing laterally through the tobacco filler at the said end of the cigarette and having its intermediate area passing through the eyelet and its ends projected through the outer casing at the sides of the cigarette and anchored in the reinforcement member.

A cigarette having an outer casing enclosing the usual tobacco filler, comprising a reinforcement member encircling the'outer' casing of the cigarette at one end while leaving the end area completely exposed, a match tip embedded partially into the exposed end of the cigarette and formed with an eyelet in its embedded portion, and an anchorage member for the match tip passing laterally through the tobacco filler at the said end of the cigarette and having its intermediate area passing through the eyelet and its ends projected through theouter casing at thesides of the'cigarette and anchored in the reinforcement member, said reinforcement member comprising a band of reinforcing paper secured in position about the cigaretteifi 3.
