.1. HARASTA V CIGAR AND CIGARETTE LIGHTING DEVICE Filed July 6, 1921 Jo/an f/afaaza al'fmucl Patented June 10, 1924.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HARAS'IA, 0F BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK.
CIGAR AiND CIGARETTE LIGHTING DEVICE.
Application filed July 6,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HARASTA, a citizen of Czechoslovakia, residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar and Cigarette Lighting Devices, of which the following is a. specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cigar and cigarette lighting devices and the invention relates particularly to a priming attachment for cigars or cigarettes to be sold with the cigarette or cigar in position to properly light'the same so as to avoid the necessity of using separate matches or the like.
throughoutthe several views,
Figure l is a perspective view of a cigarette having an igniting or priming attachment in accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is a view of the device shown in Fig. 1 partly in longitudinal section and partly in sideelevation, and
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the lighting attachment.
The present invention embodies a rela tively small elongated body 5 formed of a compound which 'will readily ignite by friction and having the middle portion 6 of a wire attaching device embedded therein, which attaching device also includes a pair of parallel spurs 7 extending in the same general direction as the longitudinal axis of the body 5 and at each side of the latter as well as beyond one end of the same, the spurs 7 being arranged to be projected into one end of the cigarette 8 for attaching the igniting or lighting device to said cigarette as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The attaching device is preferably formed from a single piece of wire with its opposite ends forming spurs 7 and with the central portion 6 firmly embedded in the preciated by those skilled in the 1921. Serial No. 482,655.
thereof twisted in the general form of the figure 8 so that said middle portion will be compound or body 5. The spurs 7 are somewhat similar in form to the hooked ends of fishing hooks so that the same may be readily inserted into the end of the cigarette but will be prevented from ready detachment, and the compound or body 5 is made of such length as to partially enter the cigarette and to partially project beyond one end of the latter.
In the use of the device, the lighting attachment is embedded in the cigarette as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and when it is desired to light the cigarette, the body 5 is rubbed upon a suitable surface so that it is ignited by friction and by then putting the cigarette, the flame of the igniting device is imparted to the end of the cigarette.
It will be seen that the device is of such simple and cheap construction and embodies such efi'ective means for attachment to the cigarette, that the same will meet with all the requirements for a successful commercial use.
From the foregoing-description it is believed that the construction and operation as well as the advantages of the present invention will be readily understood and apart.
Minor changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is An ignitin attachment for cigars and cigarettes inc uding an attaching member formed of a single piece of wire with a looped central portion and spur shaped parallel ends, a body of friction ignited material in which said central portion is embedded, said .body being of elongated form,
substantially one-half of the central art of said member and said body are em edded in the end thereof.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOHN HARASTA.
