INVENTOR. Ffm/wr 6A H sa Patented Nov. 1, 1949 OFFICE BRASSIRE Frank Garson, Atlanta, Ga., assigner to The Lovable Brassiere Co., Atlanta, Ga., a corporation of Georgia Application June Z5, 1947, Serial No. 756,977
1 Claim.
This invention relates to brassires, and particularly to a brassire which is reversible so that either side may be worn to the outside. A twoin-one garment is thus provided so that it may match or harmonize with different sets of lingerie or different outer garments from the wardrobe of the wearer.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a brassire which may be worn with either side out, the comfort and supporting eiiect being the same in either case.
Another object is to provide a reversible brassire which is nished and fitted so that its appearance is equally ornamental irrespective of the side worn next to the body.
A further object is to provide a single garment of two different colors.
Other and perhaps more specific objects will become apparent as the description proceeds with constant reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevation of a brassire embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a view from the opposite side of the brassire of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a View in cross section on the line 3-3 as viewed in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 4 is a view in cross section on the line 4-4 as viewed in the direction of the arrows; and
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary bottom View of a detail.
The brassire shown in the drawing has somewhat the same appearance in either Fig. 1 or Fig. 2. In accordance with the present invention, either side may be exposed when it is worn and for convenience of description, the entire garment will be designated by the reference character III. The side exposed in Fig. l will be designated by I2 and the side exposed in Fig. 2 by I4. Both of these sides are nished and are composed of a separate or pieces of material. For example, the side I2 may be made up of a single piece of material coextensive with the length of the garment as it is extended in Fig. l or it may be made up of several pieces stitched together. The piece or pieces of material composing the side I2 or the side I4 may be of a distinctive weave and color, or white. The weight and thickness of the material may be selected with the use of the garment in view. All of this is also applicable to the side Preferably, the side I4 is of heavier material than the material of the side I2. This heavy material may be heavy rayon satin, for example. The color of one side also preferably differs from the color of the other side. For example, the side 2 I4 may be white and the side I2 may be black. Either side may be exposed when the garment is worn.
Details of structure may be Varied within the scope of the invention. However, details of the illustrative example will be described by way of example. The side I2, shown in Fig. 1 and again in section in Figs. 3 and 4, is shown as comprising four parts I6 to I9. These parts are joined at seams 2I, 22 and 23 in a suitable manner, as by stitching. The front I2 and back I 4 are joined at the ends 26 and 21 and along the top 28 (Figs. 3 and 4) by a continuous concealed seam.
The side I4 is or may be similar to the side I2 and may comprise four parts 3| to 34, joined, as by stitching at seams 35 to 38.
The parts I1 and I8 in combination with the opposed parts 32 and 33 form the bust pockets 4t, one of which appears in section in Fig. 4. The part I1 is given the pocket shape by darts 4I and 42. The darts 4I and 42 are repeated in the parts I2, 32 and 33.
Substantially at the apexes of the pockets 40, straps 4B and. 4I are secured. The opposite end of the strap 46 is secured at or adjacent the meeting corners of the pieces I6 and 3 I. The opposite end of the strap 41 is secured in a like manner to the pieces I9 and 34. The straps 46 and 4'1 are used for holding the brassire in position and means in the form of adjustable slides 49 provide for shortening the straps to iit individual wearers.
The bottom of the sides I2 and I4 are received between tapes 52 and 53. These tapes preferably match the respective sides I2 and I4 as to material and color. At one end of the garment I0, a double elastic strap 56 is provided to the end of which is secured a fastening means in the form of a hook 59. The ends of the tapes 52 and 53 are turned in at 6I to form loops 63 (Fig. 5) either of which is adapted to receive the hook 59 to secure the lower edge of the brassire around the body of the wearer.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the invention provides a reversible brassire having reversible bust pockets. The straps and securing means function in a normal manner when either side of the garment is outside.
rlhe invention claimed is:
A brassire comprising, a body composed of two contiguous sections of fabric differing from one another in nature of material or color thereof, said brassire being adapted to be worn with either fabric section next to the body of the wearer whereby the brassire is reversible,
