1 Claim. l
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in fasteners for garments and more particularly to a fastener adapted for fastening infants diapers.
An important object of the invention is to provide a fastener which will eliminate the use of pins and other pointed fasteners which might cause injury to the infant.
A further object is to provide a fastener of this character of simple and practical construction, which is economical to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part thereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan view of a diaper showing the fastener in position thereon.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on a. line 2 2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a plan view of the fastening button shown attached to its retaining ring, a fragmentary plan view of the latter being shown.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a disk or button made of plastic, hard rubber or other suitable material and t the center of which one end of a cord or other suitable flexible tie member 6 is attached, the other end of the cord being attached adjacent one edge of a ring 1 likewise made of the aforesaid material. The button is of a diameter slightly greater than that of the opening of the ring.
'Ihe ring is of flat construction and formed with a relatively large split portion 8.
In placing the invention in use, the button is placed under the overlapping folds or corners 9 I0 and the ring 1 is snapped over the diaper material and the button to bring the ring under the button, the ring possessing sufficient resiliency for this purpose and the split ends thereof facilitating the placing of the ring under the button in the manner as illustrated in Figpull on the diaper against the inner edge of the ring 1 and the top of the button 5 serves to draw said button and ring into clamping relation.
The invention may also be used to attach the diaper to the l-oWer edge of the shirt of an infant by placing the shirt material over the diaper material before snapping the ring in position.
It is believed that the 'details of construction and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
I claim:
A diaper fastener for securing overlapping folded corner portions of the diaper together comprising a flat button positioned under said overlapping portions with one side facing the same, a flat ring of larger outside diameter than said button and smaller inner edge diameter than said button disposed over said overlapping portions opposite the other side of said .button with its inner edge folding said overlapping corners over and around the edge of the button and reversely folding said overlapping portions over and around said inner edge of the ring, whereby pull against the overlapping corner portions .in a separative direction tends to urge said button and ring into clamping engagement to fasten said overlapping portions together, and a cord like connector for said button and ring attached at its ends to the button and ring and forming a loop straddling said overlapping portions, said ring being transversely split and resilient for spreading apart to pass said button therethrough so that said ring may be disposed opposite said button with a snap action.
RAYMOND V. SULLIVAN.
