1 claim. l
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hats, and more particularly to a hat construction adapted for snug fitting engagement on the head of a person, but which will not interfere with the free circulation of blood to the scalp and which has been found causes premature baldness.
An object of the invention is to provide a hat designed particularly for use by men who are inclined to become prematurely bald and embodying a construction which may be Worn without discomfort and without causing a temporary unseemly marking on the forehead or scalp of the wearer where the hat comes in contact therewith.
A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment for hats of this character which may be secured in position to a conventional form of hat without requiring any alterations in the construction thereof, and which at the same time, is simple and practical in construction, which does not alter the general appearance of the hat, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View of a hat showing the invention in position therein.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary horizontal View through the crown of the hat.
Figure 3 is a perspective View of the invention removed from the hat.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates the hat crown of conventional construction with a brim 6 at its lower edge. The hat is provided with the usual sweat band 'I secured to the inside of the crown at its lower portion.
An elongated substantially rigid plate 8 is positioned at each side of the hat between the crown 5 and sweat band 'l with the ends of the plate secured to the crown in any suitable manner. The central portion of the plate is curved outwardly, as shown at 9, to produce a slight bulge l0 at one lower side portion of the crown.
The portion of the sweat band 'l adjacent the outwardly curved portion 9 of the plate is free of the crown to provide an air space I i between the head of a person and one side of the crown 5, whereby the constricting pressure of the hat at the side of the head is relieved and blood is permitted to freely circulate to the scalp of the person.
The lower edge of the central portion 9 of the plate is cut away to provide a relatively wide notch l2 at a point adjacent the ears of a person wearing the hat, the notch starting at a point above the upper part of its ear and extending forwardly to the temple.
It is believed that the details of construction, manner of use and advantages of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
It is to be understood, however, that even though I have herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, the same is susceptible of certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described, and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
In combination with a hat having a crown, a bulging plate having an arcuate outwardly extending intermediate portion with fianged ends, means mounting said bulging plate in opposite sides of the 'crown of the hat with the intermediate portions of the plate holding the corresponding portions of the crown outward, the lower edge of the bulging portions of said plate extending upward from the inner edges of the angesdefining upwardly extending recesses with arcuate ends in the lower portions of said intermediate bulging parts of the plate spacing the lower edges of corresponding sections of the crown from the sides of the head of a wearer.
