Patented Sept. 9, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE INKIN G QUILL James E. Palmer, Stillwater, Okla.
Application November 8, 1945, Serial No. 627,302
1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to improvements in quills used for feeding ink to a draughting pen and has1 for its object to provide a fountain inking qui l.
Another object of the invention is to provide a quill, the lower end of which is curved to spoonshape.
Another object of this invention is to provide a quill having a spoon-shaped or dished rear wall to provide a receptacle for a supply of ink.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying illustrative drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional view of an ink bottle embracing my invention, and
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of a stopper and quill In the drawings and specification the same characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout and in which l0, indicates an ink bottle stopper into the inner end of which is frictionally held the upper shank end I I of the quill I 2. The lower portion of the quill is formed with parallel extending arms which are arcuately curved at their lower ends to provide a flexible tongue l3 at the extremity of one arm and a spoon-shaped ink receiving receptacle at the extremity of the other arm.
The adjacent surfaces l5 of the receptacle l4 and the surface i6 of the tongue I3 are slightly spaced apart to permit reception of drawing ink between the arms of said quill, and the lower end of the-tongue I3 is oppositely tapered to form a point or feed port at the lowermost point of said quill for evenly flowing the ink to a drawing pen (not shown).
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary:
Changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details and parts such as come within the purview of the invention claimed may be resorted to, in actual practice, if desired.
Having now described my invention that which I claim as new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:
A device of the character described comprising an ink bottle stopper and a quill whose upper shank end is embedded in and supported by said stopper, the lower portion of said quill being formed with integral depending parallel spaced arms which are arcuately bent at their lower extremity, one of said arms terminating in a spoon-shaped receptacle, and the other arm forming a flexible tongue overlying said spoonshaped receptacle and being oppositely tapered at its lower end to overlie said receptacle to provide a point or feed port for evenly flowing ink from said receptacle.
