The present invention has for its object the provision of a stop device of a simple and inexpensive construction shiftable from a normal out-of-the-way position to a position in which it is operative to -hold the door of the baking oven tively according to the length or intensity of the broiling operation. performed, especially under conditions when it is desirable to limit the escape of heat into the roomto' an amount which is suilicient only to render the thermostat inoperative to reduce the gas supply.
The objects of the invention thus generally stated, together vwith other and ancillary advantages, are attained by the construction and arrangement shown by Way of illustration in the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through the upper portion of a baking oven of a gaseous fuel stove and showing my improved stop device swung into position to hold the door in the outermost one of three positions.
Fig. 2 is a. similar view but showing the stop Y device in its normal or inactive position within the oven.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken approximately in the line 3-3-of Fig. 2.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a stop device consisting simply of a sheet metal stamping or plate I mounted on a fixed pivot 8 for rotational movement from a normal inactive position within the oven into a projecting position With respect to the front opening S of the oven. In its projected position, the device forms an abutment operative to held partially open the oven door IIl which is hinged in the conventional way and biased toward closed position.
Preferably, the stop plate 'I is mounted upon to be substantially concealed from view when not in use and it is disposed adjacent the front opening 9 substantially centrally of the latter. As shown, the pivot 8 is mounted in the inner lining I2 of the top panel I I which lining forms the top wall 'of the'oven compartment. It is retained in position by means of a washer I 3, the plate I being interposed between a head I4 on the pivot pin and another washer I5. Thel washer I3 is oi' a well knownconstruction capable of exerting an axial upward thrust on the pivot pin which t'ends to bind the stop plate between the head I4 of the pivot pin and the washer I5, thereby retarding rotational movement of the stop plate.
In the present instance, the stop plate has three stop fingers, I6, I1 and I8, of varying length and spaced apart circumferentially a suiiicient distance to permit of independent action. As shown in Fig. 1, the longest stop nger I8 is in active position forming an abutment for engagement by the upper edge portion of the door I0. By turning the stopplate counterclockwise (Fig. 3) approximately forty-five degrees, the next shorter stop nger I'I will be placed in active position. Similarly, another rotational movement of approximately forty-five degrees in the same direction will bring the shortest stop ringer I6 into operative position.
It will be understood that one /or the other oi.' the several stop fingers is moved into active position, according to the length or intensity of the broiling operation to be performed or in accordance with other conditions such as the room temperature or the temperature of the baking oven at the time the broiler operation is started. When not in use the plate is turned to the position shown in Fig. 1.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a gaseous fuelcook stove comprising a' baking oven having atop panel with an inner lining forming the top wall of the oven, a front opening and a hinged door for said opening biased toward a closed position, a stop plate, a headed pivot pin carried by said inner lining and rotatably supporting the stop plate at the upper edge of said opening, said stop plate having a portion swingable into a position projecting through said front opening for engagement with the upper edge portion of the hinged door to hold the same in partially open position, and said pivot pin having means associated therewith and with said lining acting to exert an axial thrust on the headed pin so as to hold the plate frictionally against rotational movement.

In a gaseous fuel cook stove having a baking oven with a front opening and a hinged door for said opening biased toward a closed position, a stop device rotatably mounted within the oven compartment on an inside wall thereof, and means acting to frlctionally retard the rotational movement of the stop device, said stop device having a plurality of spaced fingers of varying lengths selectively swingable into a position forwardly of said opening for engagement with the door to hold the latter in partially open position.
