Application October 5, 1943, Serial No. 505,046
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in panties, particularly for children, and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a novel construction and arrangement, whereby the garment will retain itself firmly in position on and conform to the figure of the child, while at the same time ensuring maximum freedom of movement and comfort.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a pantie of the aforementioned character which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, attractive in appearance, and which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the foregoing, and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation, showing a pantie constructed in accordance with the present invention applied to a, child.
Figure 2 is a view in front elevation of the garment.
Figure 3 is a view in horizontal section through the body portion of the garment.
Figure 4 is a view in rear elevation of the upper portion of the front of the garment.
Figure 5 is a view in vertical section through one of the leg portions of the garment.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises front and back sections I and 2, respectively, of suitable material. The front and back I and 2, respectively, are formed from a single piece of material which is folded on itself at the crotch 3. Vertical seams 4 connect the front and back I and 2 in a manner to leave leg openings at the lower end of the garment.
The material is laterally and irregularly gathered and elastic strands 5 are then secured substantially circumferentially in the garment by stitches 6. The garment extends downwardly from the crotch 3 in a manner to provide legs I, each of which includes a plurality of the elastic strands 5.
It will be observed that in the legs I, the elastic strands 5 extend upwardly at an inclination from the inner portions of said legs to the outer side portions thereof. It will also be noted that, in the body portion 8 of the garment, the elastic strands 5 extend upwardly from the vertical center of the front and back to the sides thereof.
It will thus be seen that a pantie has been provided which will closely hug the figure of the child but which is capable of expansion at all points. Of course, the elastic strands 5 yieldingly retain the gathers or pleats in the material. As illustrated to advantage in Figure 1 of the drawings, the front I of the garment is comparatively high for extending well up over the stomach of the child. The arrangement of the elastic strands 5 is such as to gently lift the crotch and the central portions of the front and back of the garment.
It is believed that the many advantages of a pantie constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the garment is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed. For example, the elastic elements may be sewed or woven into the material, thereby eliminating the stitching 6. Also, the invention may be incorporated in other types of garments or apparel for use by adults as well as children.
What is claimed is:
A bifurcated type full fashioned" pantie adapted to be worn by little girls and expressly designed and shaped to conform with requisite nicety and comfort to the wearers childish figure. the same characterized by a body portion to snugly embrace the abdomen, small of the back and undeveloped hips, an uplifted central crotch portion, and short tubular legs depending below said crotch portion, said pantie comprising superimposed back and front inelastic fabric sections having inturned interconnected longitudinal edge seams, the upper edges of said sections being of curvate form and the crown region of the front section extending to a plane above the crown region of the back section, the outer ends of said curvate edges receding and converging and merging into the upper ends of said seams, a pair of closely related elastic strands fastened to said curvate edges and tensioning and gathering same, circumferentially arranged elastic strands mounted and fastened in said legs and gathering same, and other complemental strands mounted and fastened in said body portion, the respective body strands having their central front and rear reaches of general V-form in order to impose the desired upward lifting stresses, whereby to yieldingly retain the garment in place while affording unrestricted wearing facilities.
