This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in le holders designed to facilitate the work of filing saws or other objects that require an exact angle or degree of slant, such as the teeth of cross-cut saws, rip saws, etc.
An important object of the invention is to provide a handle and chuck combination for holding les wherein the chuck can be rotated to permit setting of the le with its ling surface in the correct angle with respect to the work, thus making it unnecessary that a person slant or tilt his hand to an awkward position to get the correct angle.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.

Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the holder consists of a pistol-grip 5 having an upward forward face 6. The grip 5 has a recess I extending inwardly from the face 6 and this serves to receive a socket 8, this socket 8 being anchored in place by a screw or the like 9. The outer end of the socket 8 has a riser I0 formed with a threaded opening for receiving one end of a threaded member I I on which a clamp disk I2 is feedable. A finger-grip pin I3 projects from the clamp disk I2.
A lock nut or jamb nut I4 is provided on the threaded member II and engages the riser I as shown in Figure 4. It is preferable that the jamb nut I 4 has a slight taper so that it will have a portion on the same plane as the outermost surface of a collar I formed on the intermediate portion of an elongated barrel I6, to the end that when the locking disk I2 is screwed inwardly on the threaded member II to engage the collar I5 to hold the barrel I6 in the correct rotated position, the disk i2 will also engage the nut I4 and thus adding more frictional retention to the holding ability of the lock disk I2.
A substantially square-shaped clamp box I'I is providedon the outer end of the barrel I6, the barrel I5 having a reduced portion I8 thickened as at I9 and over this portion the clamp box I'I is disposed. The thickened portion I9 has a file tang receiving V-shaped groove 20 and as is shown in Figure 5, the inside bottom portion of said box I'I has a V-shaped groove 2l also for engaging the tang of a le.
The upper forward portion of the frame II has a notch 22 therein for receiving an upstanding pin 23 on the portion I9 of the barrel I6.
A wing head-equipped set screw 24 is feedable down through the upper portion of the frame I1 to engage the portion I 9 of the barrel I6 in order that the lower portion of said box II is clamped firmly in place, gripping a le tang between the grooved portion 2| of said box I 1 and the grooved portion I8 of the barrel I6.
Obviously, whenever desired, the lock disk I2 can be unloosened and the barrel I6 rotated to bring the desired indicating point 25 on the periphery of the collar I5 opposed to a pointer 26 on the upper portion of the hand-grip 5.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A holder for files comprising a hand grip having a forwardly opening recess therein, a socket secured in said recess with an open front end, a barrel extending forwardly out of said socket and rotatable therein into different angular positions, means coacting with the forward end of said barrel to clamp a file therein, and means to frictionally lock said barrel in different angular positions comprising a riser on said socket extending above the hand grip, a circumferential collar on said barrel adapted to be clamped against said front end of said socket, a threaded member extending forwardly of the riser, and a locking disc on said member adapted to be turned against said collar to clamp the same between the disc and said front end of the socket, said disc having a radial finger grip pin thereon.
2. A holder for les comprising a, hand grip having a forwardly opening recess therein, a socket secured in said recess with an open front end, a barrel extending forwardly out of said socket and rotatable therein into diierent angular positions, means coacting with the forward end of said barrel to clamp a file therein, and means to frictionally lock said barrel in different angular positions comprising a riser on said socket extending above the hand grip, a circumferential collar on said barrel adapted to be clamped against said iront end of said socket, a threaded member extending forwardly of the riser, and a locking disc on said member adapted to be turned against said collar to clamp the same between the disc and said front end of the socket, said disc having a radial finger gripvpin thereon, and a jam nut on said member intermediate the disc and riser for turning against said disc.
3. A holder for files comprising a hand grip having a forwardly opening recess therein, a socket secured in said recess with an open front end, a barrel extending forwardly out of said socket and rotatable therein into diierent angular positions, means coacting with the forward end of said barrel to clamp a file therein, and means to frictionally lock said barrel in different angular positions comprising a riser on said socket extending above the hand grip, a circumferential collar on said barrel adapted to be clamped against said front end of said socket, a threaded member extending forwardly of the riser, and a locking disc on said member adapted to be turned against said collar to clamp the same ,between the disc and said front end of the socket,
said disc having a radial finger grip pin thereon, said coacting means comprising a reduced portion on the barrel and a clamping element through which said portion extends and provided with a clamping screw bearing against said portion for adjusting the element into clamping relation to saidy portion.
