AUNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
ALFRED BARKER, OF RIOHFIELD SPRINGS, NEW YORK.
CLOTH ES-WRI NGER.
4 `S1E(IIFICA'JQIOLT forming part of'Letters Patent No. 235,491, dated December 14, 1880.
Application filed March 13, 1880. (No model.)
'To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ALFRED BARKER, of Richfield Springs, in the county of Otsego and State of New York, have invented certain 5 new anduseful Improvements in Clothes- Wringers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the constructionand operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed draw- ,ro ing, making a part of `this specification, and
to the letters and ligures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawing is a representation of a side elevation, partly in section, of
my clothes-wringer My invention relates to olothes-wringers; and it consists in the features of construction and combination of parts ,as hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the 2o claim.
A designates the base, upon which are supported two standards, B B. C O are the rolls,
which are journaledin grooves Dof the standards,I and E E are the anti-friction rollers,
, which bear upon thejournals of the rolls C.
{"`reception of spiraljsprings Gr. To depress these springs upon the journals of the upper pair of anti-friction rollers, so as to cause said y rollers to bear upon the journals of the wrin gerrolls, and thus tighten up the said rolls, the
p 4o following means are provided:
H is a cross-bar secured to the tops of the standards, and formed with holes to admit of the passage of pins I I down into the hollow standards and against the springs. lhe pin-s I I are secured to the ends of the levers K K, which are pivoted at about their central parts to the bar H. The adjacent ends of these le vers rest upon a ring, L, which tits loosely upon a set-screw, M, and so as to rest upon a collar, N, formed with or secured to the screw. This screw passes down through the `bar H, and is provided, at its upper end, with ahandwheel, M. In raising the screw the inner ends of the levers are raised by the ring upon which they rest, while their outer ends are consequently depressed,so as to force the pins upon the springs. In thus compressing the pins they act upon the journals of the upper pair of anti-friction rollers, and these said rollers, act-ing upon the journals of the upper wringer-roll, cause them to be forced closer against the lower wringer-roll, the journals of which rest upon the lower pair of anti-friction rollers.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- The combination of the upper one of the wringer-rolls C, the grooved and hollow standards, the upper pair of anti-friction rollers E, with journals E' projecting into the standards, the springs G, arranged within the standards and bearing upon the journals E of the anti-friction rollers, the cross-bar H, the pivoted levers K, with pins passing through the cross-bar into the standards, the screWM, with a collar, N, and the ring L, arranged upon the screw below the inner ends of the levers, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
l ALFRED BARKER.
