UNITED STATES PATENT f OFFICE.
W ILLIAM'F. WILLIAMS AND vIEIEN BY L. WILLIAMS, OF YORK, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-WRINGERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 177,910, dated May 23, 1876; application iled April l5, 1876. i
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, W. F. WILLIAMS and HENRY L. WILLIAMS, of York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Ulothes-Wringers; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the an' nexed drawings, making a part of this speci fication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon. l
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal vertical section of my clothes-wringer and Fig. 2 is aside viewof the same.
This invention relates to means for wringing wet fabrics 5 and the nature ot' o ur invention consists in combining with two wringing-rollers two cams or eccentrics, which operate, by means of a crank-handle, to forcibly compress the fabrics passed between said rollers, the cams operating to force the lower wringingroller upward, and springs acting on levers i operating on the upper roller, as will be hereinafter explained.
j In the annexed drawings, A A designate the cheeks of .the wringer, and B B are the wringing-rollers, between which the fabrics are passed to squeeze the water out of them. The twob cheeks AA are constructed with jaws ma, and provided with clamping-screws b, by means of which the machine can be secured to a tub. C O are levers, .which are connected to the cheeks A A by means of an arched pivot-brace, D, which allows said levers to articulate freely in vertical planes.y A
Between the ends of the levers C and the cheeks A are springs S, which are held in place by studs, or their equivalents. The opposite ends of levers C are scored out and press on .the journals of the upper roller B, and are notchedto receive tenons, which are formed on uprights of the cheeks A. This retains the ends of thelevers in place against lateral displacement, and allows them free vertical play. The journals of the lower roller B bear i upon blocks g, which are held down upon eccentrcs la by the springs S acting on the upper roller B. The two eccentrics Il. are fixed on a shaft, J, whichhas its bearings in the cheeksof the machine, and which bears 011 one end acrank-handle, F. G designates a segmental rack, which is secured lto one of the cheeks A concentric tothe axis of the shaft J, for the purpose of engaging with the crank-- handle F, and retaining the cams in a xed position when they are properly adjusted.
It will be seen, from the above description,
lthat the springs S, acting through the medium of the levers C, keep a continued elastic pressureon the upper roller B, .which pressure can be increased or diminished by adjusting the cams lor eccentrics h.
What we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, s Y
In aclothes-wringer, the cheeks A, with jaws a, and' clamping-screws b, and provided with rollers B B', blocks g, and springs S, in coinbination with the shaft J having eccentrics h, segmental rack G, and handle F, the whole arranged and operated in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that we claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
W. F. 'WILLIAMS HENRY LEWIS WILLIAMS.
Witnesses: J. O. WEAVER,
JACOB HERMAN.
