WELTING AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME Filed April 9, 1942 w. B. WHITE 2,32 ,937
of the bead may be secured to the outersole I8 as by the usual outersole stitches I9. In case a thin edge welt is desired, the lower face ofthe welt from the stitch groove 4 outwardly may be trimmed off as indicated at 20 in Figure 6, the welt otherwise being the same as heretofore described, either with or without a filler in the bead portion. .7 From the foregoing description of an embodiment of this invention it should be evident that various modifications and changes might be made without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention. 1
I claim: 1. The method of making a beaded welting,
which comprises rounding off an edge of a'blank strip, partly severing'a layer from the lower face of said strip outwardly toward said rounded edge, about said edge and back from said rounded edge substantially to the desired outer face portionof therefrom, and cementing the layer thus formed and folded against the top face of said strip. I
2. The method of making a beaded welting,
which comprises rounding off an edge ofa blank strip, partly severing a layer from thelower face of saidfstrip outwardly toward said rounded edge,
about said edge and back from said rounded edge substantially to the desired outer face portion of the bead, and then folding said layer back on itself and about a f ller strip on theupperface of said strip to; form the bead, the edge portion of said layer overlying the top face 'of said strip exposed by the cutting of said layer and terminating at a position with its top face merging with the rounded edge face of theblank exposed 1 by the cutting of said'layer therefrom, and ce- ;-m enting the layer thus formed and-folded against the top face of said strip.
3. A'beaded weltcomprising afblank having an integral bead extending longitudinally between its side edges on its upper face and presenting the original surface of the top face ofthe blank at one side of said head and over the top thereof,
the surface of the remainder of said bead and the upper adjacent face of said weltpresenting the original surface of a rounded side edge and a part i of the under face of the blank.
4; A beaded welt comprisinga blank having an integral bead extending longitudinally between its side edges on its upper face and presenting the original surface of the top face of the blank at one side of said bead and over the top thereof, the surface of the remainder of said head and the'upper adjacent face of said welt presenting the original surface of a rounded side edge and between said groove and said rounded edge.
.5. A beaded welt comprising ablank having j an integralbead extending longitudinally between its side edges'on its upper face and presenting the original surface of the top face of the blankatfonelside of 'said-be'adand over the top thereof, thesurface of the remainder of said 7. .bead'and the upper adj acent face of said welt presenting the originalsurface of a rounded side edge and a part of the under face of the blank, said welting having a stitch receiving groove on its lower face substantially opposite to said bead and a bevel between said groove and said rounded 5 edge and thinned from said'stitchi' receiving groove outwardly, y
6. A beaded leather welt comprising a blank having a bead extending longitudinally between its side edges on its upper face and presenting the grain surface of the leather atthe outer side of the bead and over the top thereof, the outer surface of the remainder of said bead and the upper adjacent face presenting the cut surface from the grain tothe flesh face and a portion of the 5 original flesh face of the blank, said welt having a stitch receiving groove on its lower flesh face substantially opposite to said bead.
'7. The method of making a beaded welting which comprises partly severing a layer from the g5 bead, the edge portion of said layer overlying the top face of said strip exposed by the cutting of said layer and terminating at a position with its top face merging with the edge face f the blank exposed by the cutting of saidlayer therefrom, and cementing the layer thus formed and folded against the top face of said strip.
8. The method of making a beaded'welting, which comprises partly severing a layer from the lower face of a blank strip outwardly toward one 5 edge, about said edgeand back from said edge substantially to the desired outer face portion of the bead, and then folding said layer back on itself and abouta filler strip on the upper face 1 of said strip to form the bead, the edge portion of 40 posedby the cutting of said layer and terminating at a position with its top face mergingwith the edge face of the blank exposed by the cutting of said layer therefrom, and cementing the layer .thus formed and folded against the top f'ac'eof said strip. I
9. A beaded welt comprising a blank having an integral bead extending longitudinally between its side edges on its upper face and presenting the original surface of the top fac'eof the blank at oneside of said bead and over the top thereof, the surface of the remainder of said bead and the upper adjacent face of said welt presenting the original surface of a side edge and a partof the under face of the blank; I q
10. A beaded welt comprising a blank having an integral bead extendinglongitudinally between its side edges on its upper face and presenting the original surface of the top face of the blank at one side of said bead and over the top thereof, the surface of the remainder of said bead and the upper adjacent face of said welt presenting the original surface of the side edge and a part of the under face of the blank,'said welting having a stitch receiving groove on its lower face substantially opposite to said bead and a bevel between said groove and said edge and thinned from said stitch receiving groove outwardly.
