(01. 211 12) This invention relatesto laundry appliances, particularly to such as are used in steam laundries where a large quantity of miscellaneousgoods are processed, and more specifically to devices for bundling parcels of goods when in a moist condition.

'It iswell knownthat few city dwellers have the conveniences and facilities-or the disposition-to undertake heavy family washes and therefore prefer to patronize establishments where such services are satisfactorily performed 7 on a large scale.

vIt has been found decidedly economical, in most instances, for such large .laundries to do the cleansing, washing and purifying, returning the goods in asemi-dry condition ready for finish dryingysmoothing, folding and subsequent service,- and this applies to different fabrics, white or colored. f l

It is an object of the invention to provide a mechanism adapted for simultaneous use, preferablyby two or more operatives, in which the goods of each batch are maintained separate from another, encased in a bag, preferably. a; netted fabric, suspended on a rotatable support frame at their upper ends and resting on a platform below the framein a manner to relieve all strains and become readily accessible,

Afurther feature is in the provision of means whereby identification devices are instantly accessible for application to each of the laundry bags, like devices being used on goods of different color and material for the same customers.

Another purpose is to produce a mechanism having an encircling platform at a convenient height on which the articles in each batch may be released from their netted bags, thereafter to be conveniently wrapped and tied, forming individual packages, ready for delivery, supplies of paper and twine being arranged on the upper portion of the machine, for instant access.

These and other advantageous objects, which will become further on apparent, are accomplished by the novel and practical construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, constituting a graphical component of this disclosure, and in which:

Referring in further detail to the drawings, the numeral l0 designates a pedestal having a base I I to be secured to the floor. The upper end of the pedestal is bored to receive an axial vertical shaft 12 on which is a collar l3 resting on the pedestal and forming the lower element of an anti-friction, combination thrust and radial bearing M to which further reference will be made. This collar is provided with a notch 15 in its underside to receive a pin I6 adapted to engage in any of the perforations IS in the shaft l2 by which it may be adjusted for height.

A radial bearing 29, provided with a stem on itslower element, has its upper element or race adapted to constitute the hub of a spider 22, while the stem is slidably mounted in a sleeve 2| fixed on the upper end of the shaft I2, (see Figs. 2 and The outer ends of the spider 22are fixed ina rigid ring 23, forming, in effect, a wheel revolvable on a' vertical axis.

The ring 23 carries cross bars 25 having at their ends support brackets 26, connected at their tops by rails 21 which support a pair of spaced transverse shafts 28 adapted to carry rolls of wrapping paper 29; shear blades 30 are pivotally mounted on the brackets to cut the paper into such length as may be desired as it is unrolled. 1 Rigidly attached to the ring 23, at equal distances apart, are upright bars 3| connected by radial arms 33, twisted near their inner ends, which are fixed to the outer elements of the bearing M.

These bars 3| extend downwardly a uniform distance and are then bent outwardly, at right angles, forming radial supports 34 for a platform or breaker table 35, on which the contents of the bags may be disposed, there to be conveniently bundled.

While the platform is shown as pentagonal in profile to accommodate a plurality of operators to work at one time, it will be understood the invention is not so limited.

The ring 23 has fixed upon it a series of fiat plates 36 on the outer faces of which are attached hollow brackets 31, their bottoms, at the front, extending upwardly at an approximate angle of constituting pockets suited to receive angularly inclinedbag support arms 3B,removably held when in operative position by engaging pins 39, passing through the sides of the brackets at their lowermost corners, see Fig. 4.

Set in the upper portions of these brackets are hooks 40 for the suspension of tags 41 bearing indicia relative to each individual wash, the tags, when not raised for display, resting in the brackets.

Slidable on the tag arms 38 are rings 42 engaged with the ends of specially large safety pins 43, used to support the gathered upper ends of meshed or netted laundry bags 44, the lower ends of which rest on the surface of the platform 35 there-by relieving undue strain on the bag fabric.

Hooks or like means 45 are also provided for supporting hanks of twine 46 at various convenient locations around the frame.

It is to be noted that a single pair of brackets 3'! face each of the five segments comprising the platform, parallel with its straight outer edge, thereby rendering it convenient for use by several operators at the same time.

Although the foregoing is descriptive of the best known embodiment of the invention, it is to be regarded as suggestive rather than restrictive, except as defined by the annexed claims.

Having thus described the invention, including its construction and application, what is claimed as new and sought to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A laundry packaging apparatus comprising a rigid post, a shaft having a thrust bearing adbeing seated at their lower ends on said platform, and pairs of brackets containing pockets on the upper spider to carry memoranda relating to the contents of each bag independently.

2. A laundry packaging apparatus comprising a standard, a shaft extending upwardly therefrom, means to adjust the height of said shaft relative to the standard, a substantially circular upright frame, spiders connecting said frame to said shaft, said spiders being mounted on spaced pairs of antifriction bearings carried by said shaft, a plurality of brackets forming open pockets arranged in spaced relation on the upper part of said frame, bars releasably engaged in said pockets to extend angularly outward and upward therefrom, rings engageable on said bars, pin means carried by said rings adapted to engage the upper ends of laundry bags, and a circumambient platform suspended by said frame to extend horizontally outward therearound and on which the lower ends of said bags normally rest.

3. A laundry packaging apparatus comprising a hollow standard having an expanded fixed base, a shaft slidable in said standard, said shaft having a plurality of spaced transverse holes therethrough, a crown collar fixed on the upper end of said shaft, a radial antifrictional bearing mounted on said collar, a second collar fixed on said shaft,-said second collar having a transverse notch in its underside and constituting the lower element of a thrust bearing, a support pin to engage selectively in any of the holes in said shaft and engage in said'notch, a frame supported by said radial bearing to rotate therewith, depending arms carried by said frame, a pentagonal sectional platform having a level circuitous surface fixed on the lower ends of said arms to extend outwardly therebeyond, pairs of bag engaging brackets on said frame directly over each of the platform sections, and stay means conmeeting said arms with the :upper element of said thrust bearing.

4, A laundry packaging apparatus comprising a stationary standard, an upright shaft adjust able therein, said shaft having-a plurality of transverse holes, a radial bearing on the upper end of said shaft, .a combined radial and thrust bearing spaced on the shaft therebelow, its :under side having a transverse groove, a pin .engageable selectively in the holes of said shafto-n-wh'ich the groove of the last named bearing rests, a radial armed spider carried by each bearing, a circular frame supported by said spiders, means removably connected with the upper part of said frame tosupportingly engage the tops of laundry bags and a circuitous platform carried by the lower part of said frame to receive the bottoms of the bags.

5. A laundry packaging apparatus comprising 'a stationary standard, an upright shaft adjustable therein, said shaft having a plurality of transverse holes, a sleeve fixed on top of saidshaf-t,

-.a radial bearing having a stem slidable in said sleeve, a pin on the standard selectively enterable in the holes in said shaft, a thrust bearing on the shaft seated on said pin, spider arms carried by said bearings, upright bars on the outer end of said arms, and a circuitous platform fixed on the lower ends of said bars.
