7 Claims.
My invention relates to containers and has particular reference to containers or boxes for candy, cigarettes, buttons, and similar articles.
My invention has for its object to provide a. container, particularly for candies, with an ornamental cover preferably made of a flexible material in the shape of a @011 or similar huntan figure. I further provide the doll with a simple device for moving the dress up and to one side for opening the box, 1118 movement being accomplished by depressin a portion of the doll, as, for instance, its head.
My invention is more fully described in the accompanying specification and drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a fractional sectional elevational view of. my box;
Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l with the cover removed and the device in a closed position;
Fig. 3 is a fractional sectional view of the device taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, showing the cover mechanism ha a depressed or opening position, as indicated in dotted and dashed lines in Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the box in an opened position.
My container consists of a base I with a peripheral wall 22 forming a box open at the top and suitable for containing candy, cigarettes, and various other small articles, The base has a bracket 3 supporting a tubular post 4, in which slides a rod 5 which may be hollow to reduce its weight. A spring 6 normally keeps the rod in the raised position, as shown in Fig. 1. The upper end of the rod supports the head I of a doll 8 shown more fully in Fig. 4.
The doll or human figure 8 has a large dress or skirt 9 udrh a hoop It! at the hem, the hoop loosely enclosirg the box. The hoop may be rein forced with a metal wire H, in order to make it sufficiently rigid, so that it will retain its circular The doll with its dres forms, therefore,
A mechanism is provided for raising the dress, thereby opening the box. The post 4 is provided for this purpose with a bracket l2 at the top supporting a pivot l3 for a lever M. The latter is hingedly connected at l5 to the wire H of the hoop, the rear end of the lever having a curved hook it slidably engaged by a lug I! attached to the rod 5. For opening the box, the dolls head is depressed, the lug IT forcing the hook 16 downward and raising the lever, as shown in dotted and dashed lines in Fig. 1. As a result, the hoop it will be raised at one side, as shown in Fig. 4, providing a free access to the contents of the box. The spring 6 moves the doll upward when the pressure on its head is released, thereby causing the hoop to be lowered over the box.
The doll may be of any convenient shape, the
The essential part of the cover is the flexibledress forming a hood over the box with the hoop supporting the hem or lower edge of the dress. The dress and the doll may be therefore of any suitable form and may even represent a figure other than human, as, for instance, a hen or other bird sitting on a nest, or may even be made in a simplified form of a plain or ornamental cap or hood.
The box, when used as a container for selling candy and similar products, may be provided with a temporary paper cover over its upper edge, the cover being destroyed for removing the contents.
It is understood that my container may be further modified without departing from the spirit of the invention, as set forth. in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A container comprising a base adapted to support removable articles, a post rupported on the base, a member slidably supported on the post, means to urge the member upward, a hood supported on the sliding member, the lower portion of the hood loosely enclosing the lase, and means to raise one side of the hood, by depressing the sliding member with the upper portion of the hood.
2. A container comprising a base adapted to support removable articles, a post supported on the base, a member slidably supported on the post, a spring urging the member upward, a flexible hood supported on the sliding member, the lower portion of the hood loosely enclosing the base, a hoop attached to the lower edge of the hood, and means to raise. one side of the hoop, thereby tilting the hood and exposing the corresponding side of the base.
3. A container open at the top comprising a base adapted to support removable aaspicles, a. flexible hood removably supported over the base, the lower portion of the hood enclosing the articles, a rigid hoop attached to the lower edge of the hood, and means to raise one side of the hoop portion of the hood, thereby exposing the articles.
4. A container comprising a base forming a bottom of abox open at the top, a tubular post supported on the base, a rod slidably supported in the post, a spring in the post urging the rod upward, a flexible hood supported on the upper end of the rod, the lower portion of the hood extending over the box, a lever rotatively supported at'the post, the outer end of the lever being operatively connected to the hood, and operative connections between the lever and the rod, the outer end of the lever being adapted to be raised by depressing the rod, thereby raising the hood and exposing the contents of the box.
5. A container comprising a base forming a bottom of a box open at the top, a tubular post supported on the base, a rod slidably supported in the post, a spring in the post urging the rod upward, a flexible hood supported on the upper end of the rod, the lower portion of the hood extending over the box, a lever rotatively sup ported at the post, a hoop attached to the lower edge of the hood and loosely enclosing the box, the outer end of the lever being hingedly connected to the hoop, and a lug on the rod operatively connected to the lever and adapted to raise with the hood by depressing the upper central the outer end of the lever when the rod is depressed, thereby raising one side of the hoop with the hood and exposing the contents of the box.
6. A container open at the top comprising a base adapted to support removable articles, a post supported on the base, a member slidably supported on the post, means to urge the member upward, an ornamental figure supported on the upper end of the sliding member, a flexible hood extending from the figure over the base, a hoop attached to the lower edge of the hood loosely encircling the base, and a lever connecting the sliding member with one side of the hoop adapted to cause one side of the hoop to be raised above the container when the figure with the sliding member is moved downward.
7. A container comprising a base forming a bottom of a box open at the top, a tubular post supported on the base, a rod slidably supported in the post, a spring in the post urging the rod upward, a dolls head and torso supported on the upper end of the rod, a flexible dress extending from the doll over the box, a hoop attached to a the hem of the dress loosely encircling the box,
and means to raise one side of the hoop above the box by depressing the dolls head.
