This invention relates to new and useful improvements in an adjustable neckband for shampoo and the like capes.

The invention proposes, in combination with a shampoo or the likecape having a neck opening continuing into a back or the like opening, of a neckband mounted on the neck opening and extending to the vicinity of the back opening and then continuing ito free strip portions arranged in a certain way, by which the neckband is adjustable for different neck sizes. A shampoo cape or other similar garment so constructed need not be changed for different sized persons and will fit all comers.

Still further the invention proposes to so arrange the adjustable neckband to be operable without the use of hooks or snaps or other metallic elements liable to rust which may scratch or infect the neck of the wearer.

Still further the invention proposes to so arrange the neckband that it will not be subjected to undue wear with consequent rapid wearing or destruction of the article.

Still further the invention proposes to characterize the neckband by an arrangement whereby one of the strip portionscontinuing therefrom extends outside of the other and to the front, and the said other strip portion extends inside of the first mentioned strip portion and through an opening in the neckband to the front. This arrangement permits the front ends of the strip portions to be tied together for securely contracting the neckband upon the neck of a wearer.

Still further the invention proposes the use of a constricting member mounted around the opening in the neckband for frictionally gripping the strip portion passing therethrough for assisting in holding the neckband in position.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a shampoo cape with an adjustable neckband constructed in accordance with this invention.

The adjustable neckband for shampoo and the like capes, according to this invention, is used in combination with a shampoo or the like cape l0 having a neck opening H continuing into a back or the like opening II. The free ends of the strip portions M and. I4 extends to thefront. At the front these strip portions areadapted to be tied together to contracttheneckband against the neck and to securely hold the cape in position on a wearer.

The particular design of cape illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4 comprises merely a sheet of waterproof material bent transverselyto form shoulder portions Ill There is a front section 10 and a back section I0. These front and back sections are-open at the sides. The back opening I2 is formed in the back section l0-. The wearers arms extend from the open sides beneath the shoulder portions of the cape.

The neckband I lis reinforced with lining material lfibuilt into the band. For this reason the band ismade from double layer material, as indicated in Figs. 3 and 4. At the free ends thestrips- 14 and I4 taper to relatively narrow tips, and the free end of the strip M is provided with a flexible reinforcing strip l4 made of Celluloid or like composition. This facilitates the engagement of the strip portion M through the openings l5, and also facilitates tying the strips together.

When the strips I l and W fully close the neckband l4 around the neck, the back portions Ill are in overlapping relation to fully cover the back of the wearer.

In Figs. 5 and 6 a modified form of the invention has been disclosed which distinguishes from the prior form in the construction of the opening 15'. In accordance with this form of the invention there are several cuts or slits I8 formed outwards from the opening 15'. In Fig. 7 another modified form of theinvem tion is disclosed distinguishing from the prior form in the construction of the shampoo cape. The adjustable neckband is shown applied to a shampoo cape l0 having a front panel I0 and a back panel I0. This cape also is provided The neck construction and the adjustable neckband mounted thereon is identical to the same parts of the preferred form and identical reference numerals have been used to indicate the same.

The cape I0 distinguishes from the cape previously described in the provision of lines of stitches extended between the front and back sections lfl and it) to close up the sides of the cape below the arm openings.

It is to be understood that the cape may be made of any suitable material, size and style to be used by beauticians, barbers, dentists, etc.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by. United States Letters Patent is: V

In combination with a shampoo and the like cape having a neck opening continuing into a back opening, a neckband having its bottom edge securely attached to said neck opening, free strip portions continuing from the ends of said neckband, one of said strip portions extending outside of the other to the front, the other of said strip portions extending inside of said firstmentioned strip portion andthrough an opening in said neckband to the front, and a conopening in said neckband to the front, and means onthe material of said neckband around said opening therein for gripping the strip portion passing therethrough, comprising a continuous circular elastic element mounted on the material of said neckband around said opening therein and through which said latter-mentioned strip portion passes.

In combination with a shampoo and the like cape having a neck opening continuing into a back opening, a neckband having its bottom edge securely attached to said neck opening, free strip portions continuing from the ends of said neckband, one of said strip portions extending outside of the other to the front, the other of said strip portions extending inside of'said firstmentioned strip portion and through an opening in said neckband to the front, and means on the material of said neckband around said opening therein for gripping the strip portion passing therethrough, comprising a continuous circular elastic element mounted on the material of said neckband around said opening therein and through which said latter-mentioned strip portion passes, said neckband being formed with slits extending radially inwards from the edge of said opening therein permitting said elastic element to be stretched when passing the end of said lattermentioned strip portion through said opening therein. v V

4. In. combination with a'shampoo and the like cape having a neck opening continuing into a back opening, a neckband having its bottom edge attached to the margin of said neck opening and having normally spaced ends adjacent said back opening, an opening in said neckband intermediate its free ends, strip portions extending from said free ends and terminating at the front of the cape, one of said strip portions extending externally of the neckband, the other strip portion extending internally of said neckhand, through said opening therein and then externally to cooperate with the first strip portion.
