UNITEDY STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PAJAMAS Alexander Donnelly, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application November 22, 1940, Serial No. 366,767
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to improvements in pajamas used for both lounging and sleeping purposes.
An important object of the invention is to so construct the pajama trousers as to give greater comfort to the wearer.
Another object of the invention is to provide paj ama trousers having an improved front closure which insures against accidental opening and at the same time renders a pleasing appearance to the pajamas.
A further object is to so construct the fly of the pajama trousers as to permit the wearer to lounge around therein without fear of embarrassment occasioned by revealing the configuration of the underlying body portion.
A still further object of the invention is to provide pajama trousers having an improved seat which construction is devoid of the center seam thereby giving greater comfort to the wearer.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure l is a front elevational View of pajama trousers in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 with the closure iiap partially open to vision.
Figure 3 is a rear elevational View of the pajama trousers.
Referring to the drawing for a more detailed description thereof, the improved pajama trousers are generally designated by the reference numeral 5 and include the usual waist 6, right and left leg portions I and 8, respectively. In accordance with the present invention, a section 9 is inserted in the seat area of the trousers, said section being secured therein by stitching I0, as shown more clearly in Figure 3 of the drawing. The section 9 tapers downwardly toward the crotch II of the trousers but its use eliminates the conventional center seam through the back portion of the trousers which oftentimes is uncomfortable and annoying to the wearer. The improved pajama trousers being devoid of this center seam give greater comfort to the wearer when used for both lounging and sleeping purposes.
The y of the pajama trousers is designated by the reference numeral I2, the same being covered by means of a substantially triangularshaped flap I3, said iap being cut at its lower end to form the edge I4 which is secured to the lower end of the fly as indicated at I5. It is readily obvious that the flap I3 is integral with the left side of the trousers and when in closed position is secured to the right side of the trousers completely closing the fly I2 as well as overlying an appreciable area of the trousers on the right side thereof. The free edge I3 of the flap curves outwardly and upwardly from the edge I4 to a point where it is united with the other side of the trousers.
A button I6 is attached to the right side of the trousers at the upper end of the fly I2 and a buttonhole I'I is formed on the upper end of the flap for engagement therewith. The arrangement of the button I6 and buttonhole I1 will retain the trousers in position about the waist of the wearer and at the same time serve to partially close the fly I2 as will be seen from Figure 2 of the drawing. A hem I8 is formed in the waist of the trousers for receiving a drawstring I9, one end 20 of said string projecting through an opening 2I provided in the right side of the waist portion and the other end 22 extending through the edge 23 of the nap I3. When the ap I3 is in closed position the ends of the drawstring are tied as indicated at 24, thus thoroughly concealing the ily with the flap being secured against accidental opening.
It is readily apparent that when the flap is in closed position, a finished appearance is rendered to the trousers with the possibility of accidental opening thereof being reduced to a minimum. Thus the pajamas can be worn while lounging without fear of embarrassment to the wearer.
Also it will be understood, of course, by those skilled in the art that variations in the hereinabove described device involving the substitution of substantial equivalents for the devices described are intended to be comprehended within the spirit of the present invention and that the invention is capable of extended application and is not confined to the exact showing of the drawing nor to the precise construction described and, therefore, such changes and modications may be made therein as do not aiiect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope thereof as eX- pressed in the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A trousers garment comprising a body portion formed integral with divided leg portions, the said body having the right front side terminating I? #megeve in a vertical edge extending from the crotch to the top edge thereof, the left front side of the body being formed with an extension disposed to overlie a portion of the right front side when the body is closed, the said extension portion of the body terminating in an obliquely extending edge extending from the crotch to the top edge of the body so as to dene a covering flap at the right side of the front, the top Waistline encircling edge of the body including the flap being folded to form a drawstring receiving hem, a button secured to the front of the waist band hem adjacent the top of the vertical edge of the body for engagement with a buttonhole formed in the iiap remote from its outer edge, the said hem having an aperture in its outer portion at a position spaced substantially to the right of the said button thereon and of the ap end of the Waist band, and a drawstring extended through the waist band hem and disposed so that one end projects through the opening at the end of the hem and the edge of the ap and the opposite end projects through the said aperture in the hem, whereby the said drawstring will completely encircle the Waistline of a wearer for tying between the said hem aperture and the flap end of the hem.
